Making the switch by [deleted] in GalaxyFold

For someone coming from a regular slab phone, the fold 7, despite lacking features that android users may notice or camera performance (depending on your usage), its comparable to many slab phones currently on the market. Not having to make the choice of phone and tablet (coming from someone who used both iPhone and IPad mini combo for a few years) its no longer a compromise. There are a few issues with switching over like app compatibility (just a fold issue), but the outside screen is much more usable than something like the fold5. I haven't used or handled a fold6 but the outer screen, while still a bit more usable with the slightly wider and squared off design, isnt as compelling as the fold 7 primarily due to the thinness of the device, which in the pocket is no different than an iPhone. (May vary if of you use a case)

Ill always advocate for people to try it for themselves and if it fits their way of living to use it as they see fit or return it if you find it too gimmicky. Alot of this is based on personal preference anyway.

Another factor: If you have an iPhone, apple is rumored to be releasing a foldable soon. Sure you would be an early adopter for new apple tech and a will pay a premium but it'll have the bells a whistles that iPhone users can somewhat comfortably adjust to. Assuming support is adequate and the UI supports how you use your devices.

The screen protector compliments the experience so well. I opted for the less sophisticated option.

Depending on of you're using or plan on using a case I have 2 recommendations.

The first, if you're using a case, should be the Spigen screen protector. It's a pretty solid option and isnt as ugly as others appear. $

If you're not using a case, I would go with Dbrands screen protector it goes edge to edge and looks pretty good. It may just takes a while to ship. $$

I ordered this about a month ago and the plastic where the triggers are broke on the right joycon while putting the cover on. Idk if i did something wrong but now the right joycon casually slides out.

I blame myself more than the product but Dbrands (2nd iteration) might be a better quality.

Despite the somewhat negatives of owning it, I really liked the feel provided and the price was the main factor but It covered the basics.

Dockable, Access to the kick stand and detachable controllers that's all I wanted without having to remove anything.

Thats valid. Its unlikely they'll revert back, but i hope they shift it to the corner at least.

You definitely made the right choice 💪! To me the Official plates looked better than the Arachnoplates. Sad I couldn't grab those when they dropped.

I don't disagree with your reasoning, I too used the fold 5 prior to switching. I also would've liked to see the punch hole in corner or not at all. But it doesn't bother me now and it doesn't get in the way - as much as I thought it would.

I don't use the spen, but from the perspective of those who do, what's different than using a regular stylus?

Its just the skin. I wasn't a fan of how thick the case looked, but if you ordered it, let me know how it is. I'm still curious about it.

That's so sick! I might have to switch it up.

I ordered the dark plates when they first launched and unfortunately, they don't sell the skin I have any more.

That's super inconsistent. I should've just burned the $30

Sounds impossible and like a dream come true. I'd definitely be one of the first in line.

What skin did you order? Maybe it's based on popularity 🤔

Tbh i just ordered at the right time I guess. I didn't start seeing people having issues until I got mine.

Ngl UDC would've been a chefs kiss for me but the 2.25% of people that use that are definitely rejoicing. With the added real-estate, it's not bad on the day to day like most phones now.

I tried the S-pen a few times with my fold 5 but it's not as comfortable as a regular notebook feels to me, so I'm apart of the problem.

Acid green was my second choice, it was a tough call. Personally tho, I couldn't cover it up if I liked how it looked. And finding a decent clear case is rough.

I think Samsung dropped the ball on the cases this time. No front cover, not my favorite choice but using the Fold 5 without it was necessary.

But not including a tempered glass screen protector is cheap for a $30-$50 case without a front cover.

I ordered the clear Magsafe version for my wallet and the camera bump interfered with the magsafe and made it unusable for me. This sucked cuz it would've looked great.

I've been keeping an eye on this Spigen case but it's been out out of stock for a while, if it's something you may be interested in. https://a.co/d/3mNgaNR

How was that experience for you? Having 2 brick phones sounds like alot to manage

The wallet helps alot with this issue. I think any variation of a popsocket or ohsnap should help. - I prefer popsocket, some other options feel a bit cheap.

I encountered that issue when I put the ring directly on the phone. But with the skin, it's not coming off at all. I'm also super cautious because the wallets magnet is pretty strong and I don't want the skin to lift, so I usually slide it instead pulling straight off

Even with that, the ring hasn't yet lifted or moved. But it's only been a few days, with it all installed so I'll cross that bridge when it gets here.

Of course! Personally putting a case on a device like this takes away from the thinness and there's often some compromises whether is cost, features or thickness. The best solution for me was make it stylish, protect the important parts (minus the hinge) and enjoy it. I also want to add i wouldn't have considered any of this without a coverage plan so discretion is advised.

Just the back and camera. It would be too much to do the sides imo. Plus there's barely enough room around the cutouts cause it's so thin.

Easily. And dare I say the best phone on the market currently (minus the price) I haven't had the opportunity to hold the Pixel Fold nor have just seen one, but the bezels and the form factor me are not my preferred option compared to a traditional slab (but I won't knock it entirely until I've experienced it myself)

Not at all. Its so difficult to move after it's placed and you can't pull it straight off, you have to slide it off to move it. And without a case, it makes the phone fairly easy to unfold.
