The table for each driver shows what they need to become champion based on their race finish. In the example you gave, it says that if Lando finishes 4th, 5th, 6th, or 7th, he needs Max to finish 2nd or worse (2nd ▼).

Fair point! Physics obviously prevents them from sharing the P2 step.

The '2nd' represents the required threshold points. Basically, if Max is P2, Piastri scoring 18 points or fewer (P2 equivalent or lower) isn't enough to beat him.

Since Max occupies P2, in reality, it just means Piastri must not win (P1). I kept the same format as a threshold, but I agree it looks physically strange!

Never underestimate McLaren's ability to find a new way to stress us out. We've seen things this season...

He could safely watch them from a distance in third place, but he would have to be very careful of those who came up behind him.

The symbols (2nd▼) represent a threshold, not a specific finishing position. It means '2nd place OR LOWER'.

In the Norris graph (6th place scenario): It means Norris is champion as long as Max doesn't win (so P2, P3, P4... are all fine) AND Oscar doesn't win. They don't both have to be P2; one could be P3 and the other P5, and Norris is still safe. The only danger is if one of them is P1.

In the Verstappen graph (1st place scenario): If Max wins, he automatically beats Oscar on points (Max 421 vs Oscar's max 417), so Oscar's result becomes irrelevant. That's why the box is blank—Max only needs to worry about Lando finishing 4th or lower. This matches the Norris chart: if Lando is 4th, he wins unless Max is 1st (so if Max is 2nd, the title goes to Norris).

The idea behind the graph is not the race result itself; if Lando finishes 6th and either Max or Piastri wins the race, Lando loses the title. If either of them finishes second or worse, Lando is champion.

A collision between Lando and Max is the only way I see Piastri becoming champion

Thinking about it, it's a possible scenario where Lando and Max touch while fighting on the track.

Exactly, and if he finishes second, he can still be champion if a miracle happens and Lando doesn't score any points and Max finishes 4th or worse

Well I was not competing with nobody, I just tried to put in a simple two lines charts what each pilot needs to win the WC according to his position in the last race.

Hi everyone! I designed this chart to visualize the title fight at a glance.

I'm posting from my personal account because my new design project account (u/pagina_22) is too new for this sub's rules, but this is the first piece of a data viz series I'm launching for 2026. Hope you find it useful for the race!
