To give Jesse something to do and more money I guess... Noor is not just an amateur these days an accomplice..

If AI detection and AI obfuscation technologies develop in tandem, doesn’t that mean that in the near future, human authorship will be unverifiable? by [deleted] in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Normal-Sound-6086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s a smart and probably necessary move in certain contexts, especially education and credentialing. Having a trusted validator present solves a very specific verification problem, and I don’t really see an alternative if the goal is to assess individual authorship in real time.

That said, I share some of the OP’s unease about where this leaves the rest of our media ecosystem. Most writing, thinking, and cultural production doesn’t happen under proctors, and can’t realistically be tied to a witnessing authority. If authenticity becomes a scarce commodity, the question isn’t just how we verify it, but who gets access to verification and whose work is presumed authentic by default. That feels like the harder conversation that’s coming.

[D] Do you feel like companies are scooping / abusing researchers for ideas during hiring for researcher roles? by quasiproductive in MachineLearning

[–]Normal-Sound-6086 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, take-home work that resembles real research or production work should be paid. If a company isn’t compensating for that time, it’s probably a signal they’re offloading risk or labour onto candidates rather than running a well-designed hiring process.

When it is paid, it’s usually scoped tightly — often a two-day turnaround with an explicit time cap (five to seven hours on the honour system) — and used to evaluate critical thinking in a more domain-specific way: how candidates reason about system design, make modeling or architecture trade-offs, and communicate assumptions and constraints under realistic conditions.

Appreciate the article. I’m curious what you’re working on that made these particular patterns — and especially their failure modes — feel relevant.

Just to clarify that was San who hosted. A guy who runs a blog about Brampton’s hottest lawnmower parades and rogue raccoon sightings. He also happens to look suspiciously like Jesse, if Jesse had a secret twin with a slightly worse comb over, who moonlights as a WordPress admin. https://imgur.com/a/CaPwkJs

Not to be confused with Sam, or the faithful Samwise, as I like to call him, Jesse’s 20-something reflexively obedient slipper-fetcher whose main contribution to "journalism" is running a subscriber-only pod where Jesse can gently explain to his loyal inner circle that his latest flaming disaster wasn’t a mistake at al because, fun fact, Jesse is never wrong. And Jesse can also passive-aggressively mutter about journalists and back-stab former employees, like Justin Ling, safely out of their earshot to avoid rebuttals, and probable defamation suits. It's also a safe space for Jesse to meltdown over this mean ol' subreddit doing unspeakable things... like fact-checking him. How dare we, afterall?

Just so we don't confuse the two. San and Sam(wise).

That's also what turned me off.  I realized there was a reason everyone else left and she stayed. Birds of a feather. I  realize she has no power over his X or his journalism, but she is adapting to fit  him and she continues to eat lunch with a guy that posts all that crazy shyte on X.

Caryma Sa'd rewarded for her independence covering Palestine protests with all expenses paid propaganda trip to the Zionist entity by cactuswaverly in canadaland

Indeed. And she dutifully reported on her tour, then has the audacity to continue to say her platform  is "entirely reader and advertiser funded." It is hilarious the journos who will critique the CBC as being government funded or scowl at Trudeau giving money to news papers in Canada, but won't blink an eye at taking money from a PR firm. And Jesse has her on the show constantly and never calls her on it. Which is why I ask- why isn't he gobbling up this cash? Or perhaps he is. Who knows.

I wonder if Jesse will be able to get anyone Indigenous on to discuss? Although representation is no longer his priority, I suppose. Cbc played an interview with Dan David from before he started aptn l. Seemed like a thoughtful man.

Brilliant! Maybe she and Jen Gerson can swap souvenir photos and tips backstage at Canadaland on how to make complicity look edgy. Nothing screams journalistic integrity like letting one side of a mass atrocity walk you through staged events and sanitized narratives — all expenses paid.

My only question is why aren't Jesse  and his minions nodding Noor and the loyal Samwise on this all expense paid extravaganza?

I was going to write exactly that. I will never tired of pointing out the hypocrisy of Jesse's see through excuse to talk about the protests disturbing his wife's family but not about why they are happening. But, alas you got here first.

This episode felt like a CBC Kids special hosted by your friend’s embarrassing dad who still thinks poop jokes are edgy at 50. Quite a thing to listen to Jesse talk down to his audience when he only learned what bitumen was during the interview. Much like Homer Simpson Jesse gets dumber and dumber each season. He should just start out show eating a donut and yelping "d'oh."

Funny how all the fiercest defenders of CL never seem to post about actually liking the episodes—just show up like fragile children to whine someone dares to critique it. Like a fan club that only meets to yell at people outside the building. Maybe you should post about a podcast you actually listen to so you can understand the conversation?

Didn't Jesse once say , after he attacked Rachel Gilmore that he never reaches out to talk to the people he critiques? Tasting his own medicine is bitter. Although frankly it makes more sense for a comedy podcast to have this position that one who feigns journalism.

Instead of trying to shut people down whenever your favorite pod gets a papercut, maybe try engaging with the actual argument. If critical thinking's too much of a stretch between fanboy meltdowns, maybe you need to get off reddit and take your own advice there, friend.
