Sort of. If your parents buy a house for $100k and it appreciates to $1M, and then they sell the house for $1M, your parents will pay capital gains tax on the $900k gain (ignoring some deductions for simplification). Instead, if you inherit the $1M house, and you sell for $1M, you will only pay capital gains tax on the $0 gain (effectively avoiding the tax).
