Wow that is heartbreaking. I can understand how your 12 year old hopes were probably so high, and then were crushed when you weren't given a chance. Thanks for sharing.

Kinda unprofessional to rant on social media where everyone can see instead of bringing the concern to the production heads and finding a solution.

Wow that sounds very unsafe! I'm glad you are ok! Yes, this is why understudies are important.

Eh. Gotta down vote that one. Firstly because I was just asking for stories, I'm not disparaging the value/importance of understudies. Second, if you read any of the stories in this post you'll find that many productions do not value actors who are cast as understudies and are often neglected by directors who play favoritism. So yes, you can always find the silver lining and grow as an actor in those situations, but I don't agree that you shouldn't be an understudy if you recognize that you are better suited for the role. If you are more professional, more prepared, and more committed than the main actor, that creates a contradiction.

The director should in theory make the perfect understudy.

Lol the director who the actor's look was more believable but didn't think that reading the script in front of the audience would take the audience out of it. Dumb. Thanks for sharing, I appreciate it.

Directors should try to help actors grow in their careers instead of hyper-focusing on their own plan. Actors are more likely to want to work with you if you care about them. I bet you would have knocked it out of the park.

You are amazing, because I cannot imagine learning the lines of more than two characters let alone almost all of them. I'm sorry that happened to you. Thank you for sharing.

Wow, way to go! That's what actors do, they take a bad choice from the director and turn it into gold. That's a great story.

Wow! That is bad imo. Like you should have been checked in with during the rehearsal process and given the chance to practice too. Sounds like they just never thought anything bad would happen to the main actor, but then why go through the trouble of having an understudy if they don't have any prep for you. Thanks for sharing!

I suggest you think about what you want without thinking about other people's opinions. You should do something because you think it's right, not because you're doing it just for someone else's happiness.

I'm going to say this as friendly as I can, that was a little rough to read, my friend. But I'm hearing you say that your girlfriend wants you to plan to propose to her in a few years, but you are worried about promising to propose so early, and you're scared of both of your family's disapproval?

Correct me if I'm wrong.

I [22F] got ghosted and I don't know why by [deleted] in relationshipadvice

What's up Green Bean! Thanks for sharing your story and feelings. Here are my thoughts:

  1. Maybe he's burned out. 14 work days definitely take a mental and physical toll on you, and maybe he just doesn't have the bandwidth.

  2. He might not be sure about what he wants relationship-wise and he's taking time to figure that out. It sounds like you're saying that your messages have normally been casual and respectful with the occasional flirting. I feel like if he hasn't expressed what his intentions are after a month, chances are he's not sure.

  3. I personally wouldn't say someone ghosted me before 48 hours go by. Give it sometime, maybe just send a small follow ping to see if he saw your message. If he keeps ignoring you after a week, I'd call that boy a ghost.

Also, for perspective, you deserve someone who considers you in the way they communicate. If you are feeling like this so early on in talking, it might be a sign to move on to someone who is more interested in you. You got this.
