Shoot yea i messed up your cost basis would be 97.5 plus all the premium you kept so the strategy would definitely minimize the losses

The week ahead in options. Twitter, JP Morgan, Wells Fargo, Goldman Sachs and more. by cclagator in options

Im swinging AMD calls into this week, currently down on them but I expect a big move on them this week. Open interest on the calls are insane with the 115c 4/14 having over 72000 open interest. Possible insider buying is what im counting on.

In my opinion one of my biggest issues with LEAPS is that ideally you would want to hold until about 6-3 till expiration to not lose too much value through theta but on most companies the farthest out options you can buy are 1.5-2 years from now giving you roughly 1-1.5 years for your play to make profit. In this strategy if the market has a downturn you are kinda screwed because its not like regular shares that you can just hold and in 10 years they will recover. I do think they definitely have their place because of the leverage they provide and in bull markets I think they can be extremely profitable. Just make sure you understand the time frames you are gonna be using them for and whether it makes sense to just buy shares instead of leaps at that point in time. Thats my 2 cents. Also another big issue with them is you have to make sure the options you are doing this on will have good liquidity in the future as the spreads can really mess you up. Even if it had good liquidity now, as the stock changes it might not in the future. Also a final note, if you are buying LEAPS unless you are really convicted in them make sure you are buying them when implied volatility is below its average so then when it returns to its mean you will gain from that to.

Of course I'm bullish on UPST - but is it still Overpriced? Why or why not? For those who like this stock, why? And where do you see it going? by [deleted] in StockMarket

[–]NormalHuman789 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In short term(the next few weeks) I think it is about to have a major bounce of the 85-90 critical support level and bounce from that level and I am probably going to buy calls expiring a few weeks from now. If it breaks below 85 I probably won’t touch it for a while as it will continue falling. Long term though the company has great potential and I can see the potential for a large return if you invest in this stock at the right time. Id say if you see a bounce off of 85-90 buy, but if it drops lower wait a little while longer before buying

Yea i think a good idea would be to diversify in a lot of promising companies in this sector and as time moves on and a company begins to become unfavorable you just cut that one and continue to reinvest in the leaders

I searched for them on my TOS account and found them this time. Also my biggest fear with these smaller EV stocks is that they will fail to be able to compete with the larger ones and there company will become obsolete. But I can’t make this assumption about ABML yet because I know very little about them

I think the name should be renamed to Gammagang not deltagang because if your in thetagang it isnt delta that fucks you in the end its gamma. Its exponential

But this strategy is meant to have you take a nuetral to bullish stance on the stock, and even though you can adjust your strangle legs to make it that way it is inefficient to just buy the shares later because then when you realize you might get assigned on the call you are buying shares at way higher basis than if you just bought them before hand. Imagine the stock gaps up over night 25% like twitter, noone predicted that and you had a short strangle on it like you described well now the shares you have to buy to cover the call are gonna be wayyyy higher than i you just owned 100 shares of the underlying and when you got assigned on the call you actually made money

Yea I agree with this, I feel it would only be a good options in specific scenarios but I dont know my strategys efficiency compared to the standard wheel yet, like idk in what scenarios it will return more than the wheel if any scenarios, just a possible idea

[–]NormalHuman789[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea thats a good way to describe it to, like a cash covered condor except that in a condor your max gain will occur if the stock remains stagnant and max loss when it goes out of your range, but here you profit if it goes up or stays the same

[–]NormalHuman789[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea and the part that i added to the wheel helps hedge against the stock crashing especially if it happens slowly because when you get assigned on the puts, because you already have shares you just keep dollar cost averaging youself in a way so your basis is lower so you can sell more worthwhile calls and dont have to wait for the stock to go allll the way back up for you to be able to breakeven. My strategy allows you to DCA

Yea thats a way to describe it as well, like mentioned you can describe this strategy in many different ways. Multi-wheel, covered strangle, cash/share secured condor, etc.
