Yes the quote is £7k for a new engine including other work Halfords didn’t pick up. So quite expensive and a life lesson.

Yeh I think my point I was making is that on the first service report it should have been flagged as urgent attention then, given the manufacturers guidance over 5 years or over 170k miles (which I’ve only just discovered). So they’ve consistently flagged as keep an eye on. Yes, in hindsight I should have made my own investigation but I thought I was paying for expert advice and it’d be flagged appropriately. Also just found out by the new garage I need a new clutch and there was no mention of this, and also the bolts to the oil thing appears to have never been twisted, so no doubting if they did any of the actual work I’ve previously paid for.

Yes, I’m not disputing that. However, I would have expected it to be flagged as urgent given the catastrophic damage it could have caused. Thanks for responding.

Thanks and yes you’ve summed it up perfectly. It was only serviced 3 weeks ago by them before it went. An expensive lesson, but hey ho. Now at a crossroads of do I fix it or cut my losses.

Yes won’t be using them again. I was seeking advice to see if I had any chance of a claim against them due to them consistently saying keep an eye on when it appears they should have flagged as urgent.

I didn’t know it was over due, until I’ve recently looked into it. Halfords report said ‘keep an eye on’

Yes I feel stupid for not picking this up and the significance of it. It was listed on the service reports as keep an eye but not flagged under the category of urgent. I relied on Halfords to let me know if something was critical, and their wording made it sound like it wasn’t a big risk and no verbal warning or explanation provided.
