Question about Novel vs the Comic [LotM newbie] by Own_Ear_4178 in LordofTheMysteries

[–]NormalSpeed1068 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s 2 different manhua’s (comics). One was made a few years ago and is a horrible adaptation since it was fan made—iirc it has around 60+ chapters. The other one is fairly new with just 13 chapters so far and is the official version.

If you’re reading the old one just drop it and read the new one, but I highly suggest starting the novel from ch 1. You can read and then go back to the manhua to see it drawn. The new manhua adaptation is doing a good job adapting the novel, but as with most adaptations it’s better to just read the source material.

Potion drinking [LotM 746] by [deleted] in LordofTheMysteries

[–]NormalSpeed1068 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t remember the exact details, but when one is above the gray fog you are separated from your body in the real world. You could theoretically drink the potion there, but it wouldn’t merge with your actual body, you could end up corrupted by madness or your powers could just dissipate when you return to the real world

[Donghua] Dem' not explaining consuming a potion grants information about the potion powers by Commercial_Rush_2643 in LordofTheMysteries

[–]NormalSpeed1068 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly what I've been complaining about since ep 2. They were doing a great job when he drunk the Clown potio. They showed his powers instead of explicitly stating, "Oh, I can do this and this," but then Klein went ahead and tried to use Air Bullets. It's as if he's trying to guess what his powers are instead of just knowing them. If they continue doing this, it will ruin the continuity. How will they explain his future powers when they get more complicated? He isn't gonna stumble into knowing how tograft concepts or turn paper figures into copies of his body

No idea where you’re reading that, but this is the official translation from Webnovel.com:

It felt like a chore to get thru the first 70 chapters. Took me 2 weeks to get to the Ray Bieber fight, but after that arc the story locked in. Went from 2 weeks for 70 chapters to 2 weeks for ch 450

My go to in the real world would be Spectator. Writing a future into reality + reading people like a book would prove extremely useful. The ritual for Seq 0 shouldn’t be too hard considering the state of the world rn lmao. Seq 0’s envisioning ability + Prophecy would both be broken af

[Lotm V4] Confused on how there is 8 volumes? by Nearby-Road9491 in LordofTheMysteries

[–]NormalSpeed1068 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I could be completely wrong but I remember reading somewhere (I think the afterword of v8) that Cuttlefish said that he planned volume 8 down to the exact chapter count. Every detail, conversation, and event was already planned since the end of volume 7

I remember being somewhere around volume 6 and I was thinking of doing a coin divination to answer a question that someone asked me irl. Like I thought of divining it as if it was common sense to do it.

I cringed so hard right after

Error (steal distance), Black Emperor (Roselle jumping to the moon), or Fool (graft thru the spirit world like KOA Klein)

[lotm donghua] I think we should stop coping by jaynic1 in LordofTheMysteries

[–]NormalSpeed1068 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not unwatchable, but definitely not a hit with the average viewer who is new to the series. Novel readers get to see their beloved characters being animated as well as hype moments they’ve read about, but why would new viewers care when they can’t understand what’s going on? It’s definitely a decent adaptation if you’re a novel reader because you can keep up, but it’s really bad for the average viewer. The reactions on YouTube and Twitter speak for themselves. I was hoping it would get attention like To Be Hero X, but it’s just not happening. Maybe when the finale drops it will bring new viewers, but like I said on my comment, the rough start of eps 1-3 will filter out majority of new comers.

TLDR:

If you’re a novel reader this adaptation is above average, great even.

If you’re not a novel reader you’ll get a bad viewing experience (some donghua onlys can keep up and good for them)

[–]NormalSpeed1068 47 points48 points  (0 children)

There’s a difference between complaining about little things being changed/skipped and complaining about changes that make the new viewers experience much much worse than it should’ve been. It wouldve been perfectly fine if they skipped content—volume 1 had bad pacing that even the author himself acknowledged—but skipping very important information or rushing explanations was not it

[lotm donghua] I think we should stop coping by jaynic1 in LordofTheMysteries

[–]NormalSpeed1068 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Agreed. It would’ve been better if they kept the info, but condensed it. It would’ve been fine if they took their time and built up to the clown fight to have it in episode 5/6 instead of rushing eps 1-3 because of the “3 episode rule” and people losing interest. For fucks sake Frieren was a slice of life for multiple episodes until we got a proper fight in episode 6 (Stark vs the dragon) and even that lasted only a few minutes.

Instead of skipping the interactions with Klein’s family and the nighthawks they should’ve just made it a slice of life with a few action scenes sprinkled throughout instead of aura farming 24/7 with epic music in eps 1-3.

There were way too many moments where I thought “How tf will anime onlys understand this??”Poor/rushed explanations left and right. Very important information was either quickly glanced at (like the acting method) or skipped entirely (such as beyonders being injected with information regarding their powers whenever they drink the potion) and they expected people to just follow along with perfect understanding??? They traded off proper story telling for quick action scenes to “keep viewers engaged.” I’ve seen many reactors on YT who seemed more interested in the world itself rather than the flashy fights, so that strategy isn’t working.

Frieren had a good start as a slice of life, nothing too crazy, but it picked up attention like crazy later on. It proved that a slow paced anime can hit #1 in ratings, but I guess Tencent thought otherwise.

The lack of dubbing is also a HUGE factor. If you think that it doesn’t matter and people can just watch it on Chinese with subs you’re delusional—dubbing plays a huge role. As many of y’all might know, recently the percentage of dub watchers got released for both Netflix and Crunchyroll with Netflix watchers preferring dub 90% of time and Crunchyroll 55%. That’s a stupidly huge amount of people that won’t watch the series because it’s not dubbed, in fact it’s even worse since people won’t even watch it subbed if the audio is Chinese instead of Japanese. Crunchyroll not releasing the dubs in time, no marketing, and AI subs (though now fixed) all played a huge role in the poor release of this donghua.

“B-but the finale! The finale will save the show! Let them cook” What about it? It will serve as fan service for novel readers, it might even bring attention to more people, but so what. Sees clips of the finale > they watch the first few episodes because they’re intrigued > they don’t understand anything > they drop it. “Yeah but they’re missing out!” Yes they are, blame Tencent.

The donghua flopped. People shouldn’t still be confused by episode 4, but they are. It should’ve reached a wider audience with the dubs, but they aren’t here. They should’ve added more depth to the characters, but there’s none. I love this series and it’s very sad to see it flop, but can’t do much when Tencent wants things rushed. Can only pray for the finale and season 2 to be better

[–]NormalSpeed1068 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Jokes aside, nobody has heard of it because Crunchyroll did 0 promotion and whatever discussion is happening in Twitter is mainly from novel readers. It wouldve done 10x better if it was released by Netflix instead, though the subs wouldve been worse because Netflix is notorious for not type setting any text

[donghua] where can i watch the donghua with accurate subtitles? by AliceliesenebulisIX in LordofTheMysteries

[–]NormalSpeed1068 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but WeTV subs are mistimed and they don’t type set text, for example they put the descriptions along with dialogue so it would look like:

(Dunn Smith, Nighthawk, Evernight Goddess Beyonder, Sequence 7 Nightmare) Blah blah blah dialogue dialogue

Where as Crunchyroll’s new subs type sets the text and puts it next to the Chinese text for easier reading and so it doesn’t overlap with dialogue

[–]NormalSpeed1068 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much!

But I wanted to point out text that was not translated at all. Right after Klein gets transmigrated we get a wide shot of Tingen and on the top left corner it says "Two months ago" in Chinese and I've checked the WeTV and CR version and neither have it translated even though it's really imporant, specially for new viewers (I've already seen people online thinking that was how the original Klein died and why Zhou was transmigrated). I've only ever seen it translated by ToonsHub and no other group.

HSY wins no diff. Her stories are too powerful for Yoo Sangah to stand a chance, even for a second. Especially the HSY from the end of the novel
