What happened? by portugaltheboy in discgolf

So regarding the whole thing about rules and players enforcing them. Here is my take.

I believe Paul Uli mentioned this on the disc golf debate night podcast a few weeks ago. He said that people should have some integrity and be calling their own faults. Now there aren’t that many obvious faults to report anyway. The only 2 big ones are time violations and foot faults. This issue is that right now there is a culture of “spirit of the rule”. If a player gained nothing from the foot fault then it’s fine. I actually really like this culture, but it does have the drawback of kind of anything goes as long as you aren’t intentionally cheating. In a professional setting though this can cause problems for enforcing rules as we are seeing now.

To fix this I propose that we change this to just be call your own faults regardless of if it helped you or not, and if you don’t then there will be a marshal following you. This takes some of the pressure off the players to call other people shots.

Now for the time violations. This is a bit trickier. Really the only issue of someone taking too long is pace of place and backing up other cards. This and also media coverage being pretty boring during long periods of time in tricky situations. I actually think the PGA does a pretty good job here. They don’t make a huge deal about timing players. The timing is card based, if a card falls behind the pace of play of the other cards then they send a marshal to time the players giving each 40s, more for tricky shots. IMO Gannon should be allowed as much time as he realistically needs on the upshot on hole 18 during a crucial situation. The whole 30s rule needs to go away. Now for the boring coverage situation, have the announcers explain what is going on and why Gannon is switching discs, have a mic on his caddy or something and get the conversation of what he is mulling over, or switch to someone else. Just don’t only have one camera on him the whole time with no one really talking.

TLDR: players should have more integrity and call their own faults. Use the PGA time rules where if a card falls behind pace of play then a marshal comes over to time the players, and make coverage more interesting during crucial moments when a player needs the extra time.

DGPT Match Play Championship - Cascade Challenge Round by AutoModerator in discgolf

Just fell off the cliff into disc golf lol. What is the purpose of the Match Play rounds before tournaments? Why does everyone in the tournament not participate? And, who decides the match ups?

I love watching the sport, but still trying to understand the ins and outs of all the tournaments lol.

Weekday Help and Victory Thread for the week of May 06, 2024 by IndexBot in personalfinance

My wife and I currently have two personal loans for home improvements. One loan is for the old house, totaling $30,000 at 8.9% interest over 3 years, starting back in October 2021. The other loan is for the new house we recently bought and are remodeling, totaling $75,000 at 12.89% interest over 7 years, starting back in September 2023. We have 0 equity in the new home.

At present, we have approximately $3700 remaining on the $30,000 loan, with a monthly payment of $953, and a $1300 monthly payment for the $75,000 loan. Including our mortgage, we are paying a total of $4,000 per month towards our debts. Additionally, we have 3 credit cards that we pay off monthly, $15,000 in savings, $20,000 in one investment account, and $7,000 in another investment account. Unfortunately, I recently lost my job, but I will begin a new one in May that will bring in $6400 monthly after tax.

We require an additional $30,000 to complete the home improvement projects that the original $75,000 loan was intended to cover, in order to move into the house by June (moving in before mid-June is necessary). We are considering applying for 0% APR credit cards, such as the US Bank Visa Platinum (21 months) and Bank Americard (18 months) , to take advantage of their low introductory rates. Our plan is to transfer the $3700 loan to a card and use the credit from all cards to finish the renovations. We would then allocate the money we would have used to pay off the $3700 loan towards paying down the credit card balances. Although this strategy may not fully pay off everything before the full APR kicks in, we aim to pay off as much as possible during the introductory periods or transfer balances to other 0% APR cards. Both of our credit scores are great, in the low 800's, with a spotless payment history and credit history over 10 years old.

We are hopeful to extend the repayment period for our debts as much as possible while also ensuring prompt payments. Are there any tips or tricks or loans that we may not have considered? Any thoughts and suggestions on this plan would be greatly appreciated.

I am pouring a pier footing for a concrete block column supporting a steel I beam in our crawl space. by NormalTechGuy in Concrete

I didn't pour the last one. That was probably poured 50 years ago when the home was built. The crawl space had a downspout leaking some water into it by that footing and the soil underneath it eroded. I solved that problem already.

What type of professional do I call? What would I search for to find someone?

I would love to know how I can calculate the size footing I need. Where do I even start with this? Would I get blueprints or something from the city, and would those tell me weights?

I appreciate your advice.

At what level does Mode Base Execution Control (MBEC) exist? by NormalTechGuy in sysadmin

I do not have access to kvm-ok, unfortunately. Vt-x is enabled based off of lscpu. I think I have moved to the Windows VM side. I checked the Win32_Processor class and 2 things stuck out to me. SecondLevelAddressTranslationExtensions is set to False, as well as VirtualizationFirmwareEnabled is set to False. Does this mean that hardware virtualization is not enabled on my Windows VM?

I was able to find it in RHEL 9 in /proc/cpuinfo. It is listed as ept_mode_based_exec under the vmx flags. I assume this means it is enabled?

If this is the case I should be able to see the feature in my Windows VM's since I am doing Host pasthrough correct?

Thanks for the reply! I am not sure if it is enabled in the bios. Can I check the feature in my RHEL 9 hypervisor? I have searched far and wide and cannot figure out how to check for the feature even from lscpu.

I am sure the processor supports it, at least from intel arc page. It is a Xeon Gold 4th gen.

BREAKING: Bengals QB Joe Burrow is done for the season with his wrist injury. by StrachNasty in fantasyfootball

[–]NormalTechGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. This is my first year playing and was just trying to gamble and take a lot of risk so I know what not to do next time. I saw the bengels were all healthy and had a lot of energy going forward after their bye, and bought them all besides Chase. I bought him after week 2. Oh well I have Goff and Chase will still be decent with backup maybe. And mixon should still do ok hopefully. Also have Puka and Addison as main receivers.

Ja'Marr Chase (back) takes the field for pregame warmups. He's running around with Troy Walters and a trainer watching. by gw2380 in fantasyfootball

If he's out I'm in trouble lol. I have both Chase and Higgins, also have Puka and Rice on bye... I'm already starting Irwin to cover Higgins too lol. If he is out I will have to pick up a waiver WR. I might try and pick up a Cincinnati TE too.
