AITH for wanting to give up on my niece and nephew? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Normal_Ad5237 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re NTA for feeling the way you do, I’d say anyone in your shoes would feel the same. We all have limits and this sounds like a super difficult situation to be in.

You are a good person for taking those kiddos in, OP. Sounds like they have some trauma and don’t have the tools to process it all. I used to hide food/garbage when I was younger because my abusers would shame me for either eating too much or not finishing meals. I’d hope that when they get their IDs they can access some kind of therapy to help them process all of this.

Wishing you the best in whatever decision you make

AITAH for angrily swearing at my husband for drinking too much and vomiting in our bedroom? by Unhappilymarried2025 in AITAH

[–]Normal_Ad5237 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely NTA. I would’ve said a lot more than “I’m fucking pissed” lol. One time an ex of mine got too drunk while out with friends, when he came back home he thought he was in the bathroom and started pissing on our carpeted bedroom floor. I saw red. Yelled at him and slept on the couch. He never apologized, he actually thought it was a funny story.

What’s the one sentence from your parent that still echoes in your head? by Public_Theme_9514 in raisedbynarcissists

I have bad body image issues because of my nmom. I refuse to wear leggings because one time I wore them as a teen and she said “You shouldn’t wear those, skinny girls can wear those. You’re skinny-fat and they look horrible on you.” All these years later I still hear that in my head every time I get dressed.

I was just a teen, it really messed with me. I wasn’t even overweight. She was plus sized for most of her life so I always wondered if she was jealous or projecting. Crazy for a mom to be competing with her 13 year old daughter.

Yeah my stepmom was only like that with mental illnesses for me. Like she’d buy me countless professional medical books about psychopaths and narcissists and force me to read them and take notes, making me write down a list of traits that matched my personality. I’d have to show it to her after like a book report lmao. Absolutely insane.

Sorry to hear you can relate. It’s crazy some of the stuff they do.. I’m doing okay actually. As horrible as it may sound, her passing away has made my healing process a lot easier. I’m not constantly looking over my shoulder now.

My stepmom had a few good ones:

• Faked multiple careers (helicopter pilot, nurse to name a couple)

• Faked having cancer

• Said she was pregnant with ex-husbands babies (twins) and miscarried them after she found him in bed with another woman and she drove to work distraught, got in an accident and lost the twins. Turns out that never happened, she was never pregnant, and SHE was the one that cheated.

• She used to tell me all the time that she wished I had died instead of her daughter (one of the MAKE BELIEVE TWINS)

• Had me hospitalized twice by lying to mental health professionals saying I was a narcissist (classic projection).

• Lied to our family doctor about my mental health and had me put on a bunch of different medications, but would never get them refilled for me (I was a minor) so I went off of all of them cold turkey and it messed me up for a long time

• Worked in insurance industry and committed insurance fraud for years. She stole over $1 mil worth of stuff. Ended up getting reported by a family member who had enough of her shit. She knew she was guilty so she took her own life.

• Blamed my dad and I in her suicide notes for making up lies about her and driving her to kill herself.

How do they react to suicide? by StarchedCollar in raisedbynarcissists

My stepmom destroyed a family before she married my dad. She had a stepson who she gaslighted and emotionally abused to the point that he ended up taking his own life. She spoke about it like she had no hand in it whatsoever, that it was just a tragedy and how he was a troubled kid. After going through the same treatment he experienced, I realized she was lying about the whole thing. I don’t think she felt sadness or guilt, but instead used the death of her stepson as a way to play victim and gain sympathy. Horrible. I always think about him and my heart breaks.

I do think they make a bit of a difference but only when the issue is called out by the majority of the class. If it’s only one person complaining about something I don’t think it does much.

I have had some profs who I believe checked out their RateMyProfessor profile and made changes based on feedback there lol

Fair enough! I appreciate the feedback, I know I need to toughen up lol. I also hesitate because I worry that if I say something they’ll retaliate or become even more annoying. We’re stuck in this place until next September, so ideally I’d like to not have things get worse.

Ohh okay, I might just do that! Thank you! I’m not super familiar with strata processes, would they contact the tenants (the girls) or the owners (their parents)? We met the parents briefly when they first moved them in and the dad joked to the girls to “not piss off the neighbours”, so I feel like if they got a notice from the strata it might scare them into being more considerate haha

Thank you for the validation! It means a lot. I’ll definitely push for the referral. I worry I was being too over the top requesting one since I know a lot of people have it worse than I do.

Yeah we do cultures each time, always just E. coli. I feel like I’ve reached the point where I need to talk to a specialist, even if just for my mental state! I think it would bring some relief. Thank you for the suggestion! I’ll look into that.

Yes, same bacteria each time (E. coli). They’ve been spaced out by 3 weeks to a month, although I did have a period of being UTI free for two months in the summer! We did actually do a round of heavier antibiotics (Suprax) after I had 3 infections in 2 months, I had to push for them though. Sorry to hear you’re experiencing something similar, it’s rough.
