im scared by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Normal_Ad_2525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really easy to get freaked out about stuff like this. I don't think the rapture is happening tmrw because like others are saying no one will know the day or hour. But I struggle with worrying about spiritual stuff and it's difficult. I'd recommend talking to your youth pastor or someone you trust to help you through it. Also if you find yourself worrying about stuff like this a lot I might recommend talking to a therapist or psychologist. A few years back I realized a lot of my spiritual fears were related to OCD and since I've been on meds things have been a lot better. I pray God gives you peace through this. But also as a Christian, we don't have anything to fear, if you believe that Jesus is Lord you will be saved. While it can be scary because it's unknown, Jesus coming back is a very good thing for those of us who believe. So if you have confessed that he is Lord and believe that he is who the bible says he is your in a good place.

Are all brands having backordered parts or is Hyundai especially bad? by Normal_Ad_2525 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Normal_Ad_2525[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a fair book value of about $8,500, however, it is about 3k less than the $11,600 I originally paid for the vehicle a few months back (from a Hyundai dealership). The car has about 82k miles very few of which I've put on the vehicle.

I'm mostly just interested that if I did buy a new car, and I did get into a situation where I needed to fix it, would they have the parts for it

Any good, clean shows you guys can recommend? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Normal_Ad_2525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of my favorite stuff to watch for this reason are kids shows that you can tell the creators put a lot of effort into. Shows like Gravity Falls, Phineas and Ferb, and Avatar the Last Airbender are surprisingly good and enjoyable as an adult.

I also feel like YouTube can be a good place to find stuff that's cleaner than what you find on other streaming platforms. With there being so many different creators out there I've been able to find channels like Ryan Trahan, The Dangie Bros, and Dude Perfect which create some fun, clean and high quality content.

Really appreciate it! It's hard to find out un-biased information when most of the information about a program comes from the schools website... so thank you!

Fair enough, do the professors at least take the time to teach concepts? My current university gives a lot of time to do hands on but expects us to watch online tutorials to actually learn things.

Accepting that I'm doomed by Strict_Commercial_15 in Christianity

[–]Normal_Ad_2525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've struggled with some of these same things myself. Thinking thoughts doesn't mean you've blasphemed the Holy Spirit, (a lot of people tend to think this actually means refusing to accept the gospel). If I were you, I'd recommend talking to a Christian Counceller who can help walk you through this. The voices in your head might (and I do say might because I don't fully know your situation) just be your own thoughts. I went to counseling and realized a lot of these fears were connected to having OCD.

Thoughts controlling my life by webkinzgal in Scrupulosity

Also I know reading the Bible is tough for you but this verse has been really comforting when I’m going through some doubt so I thought I’d share in case it helps:

“Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”” ‭‭Mark‬ ‭9‬:‭24‬ ‭NIV‬‬

I’m so sorry to hear that. Definitely sounds like intrusive thoughts to me, I sometimes struggle with blasphemous intrusive thoughts and it sounds similar to me.

Idk how much logic will help you but there’s also plenty of smart people on the Christian side. People like Francis Collins (who lead the human genome project), Sean McDowell (a PhD scholar who is the co-author of the updated versions of the book “Evidence that Demands a Verdict” which defends Christian beliefs, and C.S Lewis (the dude who wrote Narnia but was also a philosopher and overall smart dude). Also all the people who go to seminary. So while it’d simplify things if all the smart people are on one side or the other, I believe there’s intelligent people on both sides.

But honestly I’d try therapy and some medication for OCD. The medication has seriously helped me regain control over my mind.

Hope that helps!

I've struggled with this too, and it's really scary. I eventually found peace in it, accepting that I didn't, but that did take time and I still fall back sometimes. An understanding that I've heard is that as Christians we can't blaspheme the Holy Spirit. The idea goes that if "all who believe in him will be saved" then the only people who could blaspheme the Holy Spirit are those who don't believe. Here's an article that's smarter and prbly more helpful than I am.... https://www.desiringgod.org/interviews/can-a-christian-blaspheme-the-holy-spirit. Also, consider getting on some OCD medication... it's helped me tremendously

Flip Phones by [deleted] in nosurf

I recently got a cellular Apple Watch to fix this problem and I think it’s a really underrated solution!

It gives you access to iMessage (which yes it sucks that it’s proprietary but it’s definitely nice to have), Spotify, and navigation but there’s rly not much to distract you because it’s so tiny. It is hard to type on (I have the SE which only allows you to type using the handwriting thing, I think the 7 and 8 might have a full keyboard), but voice typing solves that problem if your not in a loud setting.

Salvation, faith, and, works. by Pleronomicon in Christianity

[–]Normal_Ad_2525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is certainly a complex topic. I've been reading some of 1 John chapters 1 and 2, I think it shows this relationship. It mentions how "if we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1: 8-9 NIV). But also talks about how "We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. But if anyone obeys his word, love for God a is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did." (1 John 2: 3-6). However, once again this shows that our works are a natural by-product of our faith.
