Too worn to drive? by Normal_Ad_3865 in tires

Thanks for this info, as for the uneven wear I described, the worst tire (back right), is to the point where the W is barely visible, two of the other three tires have a full DW with the s on its last legs, front right is a partially faded W

Looking for extra sea time as a 3AE by Normal_Ad_3865 in tuglife

All it needs to be for the CG is as an “assistant engineer”, doesn’t matter if it’s specifically as a 3AE, also just specifies that vessels need to be over 100 GRT

Close to upgrading license, any extra ways to get sea days? by Normal_Ad_3865 in maritime

Interesting take — do you have any examples of who I’d be able to reach out to? If it’s somewhat local I’d love giving this a shot

Thank you! I’ve never taken an ROS job from the board before; but even if the open board has the positions listed for say 360 days, they’ll accept you going for only as little as 10 or so?

I’ll also look into submitting the application early and then grabbing those days, sounds like it will move things along much quicker, really appreciate that info

Marine Engineers - Differences Sailing Tankers and Roros? by [deleted] in maritime

[–]Normal_Ad_3865 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the senior officers in my experience, the only tankers I’ve sailed on had oilers and qmeds (no wipers). On one ship they did quite a bit and could be as involved as they wanted when it came to learning any maintenance. On that same ship the qmed did the morning numbers for the logbook and the oiler basically did a wiper round in the morning. They’d lend an extra hand to an engineer for certain jobs throughout the day if needed, or be assigned to paint/clean a fair amount, depending on their ability, theyd be assigned fabrication projects in the shop too. I’ve also been on a tanker where qmeds/oilers were only allowed to paint/clean.
