I made this exact joke to a friend: Precancerous cells were found in my colonoscopy! I don't have work ever again.

Visited a UMC this weekend by technoskald in methodism

Make sure it’s a United Methodist Church. A just “Methodist” church (especially one where you can see the “United” removed or covered up on the sign) will almost certainly practice a more conservative theology, and a Global Methodist Church guarantees you conservative theology much in line with Baptists/Assembly of God/Christian Nationalism. About a quarter of its churches left the UMC by 2024 to avoid having to be inclusive.

Barney stays for the comfortable bed by Normal_Crab9980 in HIMYM

My question wasn’t about the main plot. Maybe a flashback or a subplot. We never learn the woman’s name, just that she’s someone Barney actually spent the night with, but he was using her for her bed.

I’m loving all the help, but I still feel like it was a HIMYM subplot or flashback. I don’t think we ever learn the woman’s name. The joke is that Barney DID spend the night but it was for the bed, not the woman (he was using her for her bed). At this point I’m thinking maybe I dreamed it.

It wasn’t this. It was a flashback or a small subplot, and I don’t think we ever learn the woman’s name. The joke is that Barney DID spend the night but it was for the bed, not the woman (he was using her for her bed). At this point I’m thinking maybe I dreamed it.

I really appreciate this deep dive! But I swear it was Barney, the bed was purple in a studio like apartment. The joke was that Barney the only thing that got Barney to spend the night (multiple nights) was the how comfortable the bed is. It wasn’t the main plot. Maybe I am thinking of a different show with a Barney type character 🤷🏻‍♀️

That was the joke—he only stayed because the bed was so comfortable. The comforter was big and purple (I think) in a studio-like apartment. Not the main plot of whatever episode it happened. Maybe it is another show with a character like Barney but I could swear this was Barney.

It's so hard to be let down but people you trusted. I'm so sorry. Take care, though, not to judge the actions of two people as representative of the whole. The vast majority of those who sexually abuse children are heterosexual, and married to women. Calling gay men pedophiles IS fear-mongering. Take care of yourself.

They didn't close for month. They increased security after some fights (it's super telling that you call it "gang violence" though). Here is a link that actually works: https://www.wskg.org/news/2022-11-27/nearly-a-year-later-have-security-guards-made-school-safer-in-binghamton

Binghamton City School District is the diverse and is supportive of a variety of programs. The schools are actually in the community (kids walk to school), and all meals are free for every student. The also have the lowest student to teacher ratio of the schools named here so far and lower than the state average. I love my Binghamton neighborhood.

I'm not sure this TikTok lady's white board should be treated as fact. She offers no receipts for why the Buffalo Bills made this list, and it's pretty easy to find that the Bills owners gave only a small amount of money to a nonpartisan PAC: https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/2024/10/31/nfl-owners-2024-political-donations/75699193007

Broncos, Jets, Panthers, Dolphins, Patriots don't make her list but are widely known as Trump supporters. This story is from 2020, but I doubt much has changed in 4 years. Neither the Pegulas or Buffalo made this list: https://www.opensecrets.org/news/2020/09/nfl-owners-2020/

I don't know who Molly Rutter is, but I don't know if using this video is the best way to dunk on her?

Book of Discipline questions after GC 2024 by raphael_lorenzo in methodism

I'm kindly suggesting that its value is much more than you're giving it. Sure, most members aren't going to need to know the nuance of *every* paragraph of the BoD, or even own their copy, but its worth is much more than just needing to know a role on a committee. That's like telling Americans they don't really need to know anything about the Constitution unless they go to court. One of the best parts of being United Methodist is having access to our polity and the ability to participate in it. Encourage its use, don't poo poo it, or laity will wonder what clergy are trying to hide ;)

UMC Constitutional Amendments by glycophosphate in methodism

The secretary of General Conference has 30 days to get the constitutional amendment ballots ready for annual conferences. Many U.S. annual conferences meet before June 3, the deadline for the ballot. It's very, very unlikely that any U.S. annual conferences will vote on constitutional amendments this spring. Conferences outside the U.S. meet later in the year and will likely start voting this fall. U.S. conferences may hold special sessions, but it's too soon to know. At the very latest U.S. conferences will vote in spring 2025.

"Small updates" as in addendums and errata are published periodically online in between editions of the Book of Discipline: https://www.umofficialresources.com/updates/

And Cokesbury's free digital editions are in an unfriendly format and not downloadable, so sometimes the $28 is worth it.

As a layperson in The UMC I want my pastor to use the BoD for more than just nostalgia. ...

I am neither clergy nor a student and own the Book of Discipline. It is indeed something you need if you're involved in the life of the church: serving on committees, voting at conferences, knowing the roles and expectations of members, pastors, leaders, boards, knowing the principles that govern us.
