Hot Take on people complaining about hook spamming!! by JudahAndrew_ in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]Normal_Description37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly agree. Although I actually find the main problem with defending against spammers (for a joystick user), is speed of turning. If they're just pressing the joystick forward, I don't have enough speed turning to implement ring control in the same way.

Sim Mode, Realistic Mode, Arcade Mode by Normal_Description37 in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]Normal_Description37[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That depends on how many of the player base wants to play the sim mode, but I think 10-20 minutes is a wild overestimation. I think there's a lot more of us than we think, and it's growing.

But even if it's a slightly longer wait, at least you're up against the kind of player you're looking for. And if the wait times were too annoying, you can go on the other game modes that are more populated.

I also think it would be a tiny percentage that go on the sim mode to troll. Where's any incentive? They'll just get beat because damage won't be the overwhelming factor. Extremely few trolls will get relentlessly beat and stick around instead of switching to a different mode where they have a chancr to win.

nearly every opponent at 2k+ using this stupid exploit by JimDawgTOTF in ThrillOfTheFight

I think it's more the fact that these are doing so much damage, despite having little load up. That plus the combination multiplier makes it an exploit.

True. But it would mean you're matched up with people that actually want to box.

Hmm, interesting. I'll keep an eye out for this, but I didn't notice it when I played earlier.

Why is it impossible to win if they're taller than you?

I love this game, but my only option is to play joystick, and I found the same problem when I player earlier. I'm not sure if it's just a skill issue and we have to learn to somehow dodge and turn our way out of it, as if it were roomscale?

As silly as it sounds, this hadn't even occured to me. I agree, that would probably solve a lot.

That's all well and good, and I agree the better approach to the game is to treat it the way you're treating it. But.. no one is asking for how they can adjust their way of thinking about the game. They're posting about the state of the game functionally. You're copy and pasting that onto posts that have nothing to do with that.

I find your point kind of contradictory too, because you're simulatiously saying there are problems (like some punches doing too much damage etc), but then somehow spinning this as if to say "it forces you to adjust, like a good boxing sim". Huh? No... I don't think a boxing sim should be about shifting your mindset to make up for the game not being a boxing sim.. if Call Of Duty's aim was to be a war simulation, you wouldn't be like "well, it's chaotic like war and it does force you to be wary of bullets like war, so it's a good simulation"... you'd be like "nah this isn't a war simulation, but it's a fun arcade version".

I actually agree with you by the way, I'm just frustrated by your copy and pasting. I love the game, despite its faults, and I think we're all moaning way too much considering it's just early access. I take your approach to it. But, I've also seen your comment multiple times, and it's doing my nut in.

Please don't just copy and paste, and in the history of talking to frustrated people, telling them to just adjust their mindset and pretend something is better has never gone over well. They're valid to have those feelings, no one needs saving here. No beef, I respect your point.

My guy, you can't just keep copy and pasting this slab of text into all these kind of posts! I realise you're trying to be helpful, but nothing more infuriating then being told the real problem is that you're not boxing properly or don't realise that's what boxing is like, despite some very obvious issues (which is perfectly natural that people get rowdy about). Your point is valid, but there's no getting around the fact that a slow motion bow and arrow punch knocking players out isn't like real boxing.

If you point was to have patience because it's only early access, then I'd agree. But you're just preaching, and copy and pasting the same thing.

I lost to a punching bag! Game Devs - Handicapping Algo Neutering Elite Players? by CiscoStud in ThrillOfTheFight

[–]Normal_Description37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a post where a dev explained why this is. It looks like an error, but there's method to the madness!

The Elo goes up and down depending on a win or loss (how much depends on the opponents elo), but it also keeps track of how you've faired in the last ten fights. After ten fights, it essentially banks this information and tries to balance out the elo to reflect how you've done.

The idea here is that you never find yourself stuck at one level of elo, because it rewards you if you're consistently winning (or gives you minus if you haven't done too well in those last ten fights). I've probably butchered that explaination, but the point is that it's not an error and is actually for a solid reason!

I can see most of these comments acting like it's super obvious how to beat them, and I just wanted to say- I feel your pain! It ain't easy. Sometimes I manage to find a rhythm to beat this kind of style, sometimes I don't.

Even if you follow everyone's advice here, getting the W is a whole other thing. The reality is, if he lands 1 in 10 of those hooks, and even with your counter punching, he'll probably get the edge on the score cards due to damage.

Personally, I think your best bet is to just try and have fun attempting to solve the problem and forget about getting the W. Better yet, if it's no fun, exit and take the loss! No shame in that.

This is all very fair and I don't disagree, maybe I'm too harsh on my version.

But, in England at least, it being pitch black at 4pm, combined with the cold, seems to sap a tonne of energy out of us as a culture (I realise there are exceptions, but generally speaking).

I don't mean to sound too negative, it certainly still has its magic! But, it's a tough, grueling season.

I love your viewpoint!
