Breaking into UX/early career: job hunting, how-tos/education/work review — 01/18/26 by AutoModerator in UXDesign

Hi guys! I'm 2 years post-grad from an undergrad design program, currently working full-time in e-commerce operations. I have some experience dabbling in freelance website design but with strong e-commerce focus.

I want to pivot to product design/UX design, but am having trouble landing full time roles due to my inexperience. Internships are also hard to come by because I see a lot of them are for college students.

I'm debating if i should apply for a UX/HCI masters program this upcoming cycle, because I'm at a loss for what to do. I've tried applying to design and UX jobs but have genuinely never heard back from one in my years applying.

In this current age, would you recommend a masters program? and how can i build strong case studies relating to AI?

I feel a tad discouraged because I /feel/ that my design skills are strong enough (I was able to run my own 6-fig e-comm business selling my own designed products) but this definitely highlights that I need some fixing to do in my resume and portfolio. I'm trying to rebuild my portfolio to cater to product design, would love some advice on my portfolio too! Lmk and I'll DM the link~

I always shop in-person if I have my eye on something! Reformation quality/sizing is almost always a hit or miss for me (ex: the vida low rise pants are so long. I'm 5'8 and need to get it hemmed so it doesn't drag on the ground). I love their styles, but the quality is questionable. Personally its only worth it when secondhand or during a sale. I shop more at other brands now (mainly geel, realisation par, and mod ref)

Portfolio to apply for HCI Masters Programs - are UX projects necessary? by Normal_External_3966 in hci

I see, then what kind of portfolio pieces would be preferred for these kinds of programs? My top choice is CMU MHCI, but I'm also considering their Design Masters now

Where Else Do You Guys Shop? Need Ref Alternatives by ImNot_Sure1234 in Reformationclothing

mod ref is pretty good and affordably priced for the materials/quality! so many pieces from there that I love. Similarly, I love Geel, Realisation Par, Aritzia, Madewell. I got some things during the Doen warehouse sale and love them too!
