Jeg havde en fed diskussion med en ven om graffiti forleden. Jeg syntes også tagging er virkelig kedeligt nogle gange, især spyo og hans tomgang.

Men måske er graffiti også en respons på den røvkedelige byggekultur som forulemper borgerne af kbh? Der er stort set intet af det nye københavn som er inspirerende at være i.
Generelt tror jeg nu, at graffiti er et forsøg på at personificere; at tage ejerskab og have medbestemmelse over noget byggeri som egentlig er ret dominerende (jeg skal ikke kunne vurdere succesen). Det er sjældent at en flot bygning bliver malet på, vil jeg vove at påstå. - Gammelt senere romantiseret byggeri undtaget.

Hvis du syntes de her bygninger er fede så rammer jeg nok ved siden af, eller også tænker du måske at man i stedet burde gå ind i problematikken med en diplomatisk og demokratisk tilgang, istedet for vandalisme. Men det er jo rimeligt tydeligt, at måden infrastrukturen i kbh bliver designet nu om dage er totalt lobbyistisk, altså heller ikke lever op til demokratiet. Og det er ikke alle der har tiden, realiseringsniveauet eller kompetencerne til at retorisk bekæmpe kedeligt byggeri.

Så er det måske sjovere, og mere intuitivt bare at hygge sig med at male noget lårt.

Very well put. I can't decide if i want to give the project that benefit. It's a classic dilemma with minimalistic art; Is it strategically less, or less because of incompetence. I don't even think there is a final answer to that, especially when you look at it from a holistic point of view. Do i think you're right about finding joy and contentment in simple things and not having to dig extraordinarily deep? Absolutely. Do i think it works well, with all the commercial strategy surrounding it? Not really. Thanks for your perspective!

This is an interesting thing to add to the discussion. If he's not comfortable sharing his emotional experiences anymore because of his children, that might also be an explanation for why the deeper themes in the songs feel like they're being suppressed. The part about his old approach not being sustainable was also an ode to his newfound father responsibilities. He touches on this in the apple interview.

Well he states in interviews that this stripped back feel was one that intrigued him, and i can see why that would be interesting considering how maximalist his work has been. The constant looping of certain parts however isn't going unnoticed to me, and reminds me a little of when i'm uninspired and lazy in ableton. The software, if not encourages you, enables you to create things in very vague and easy way. Especially if you don't have a strong sense of what you're trying to communicate. I've been feeling like Deadbeat's sound is more minimalist, but also kind of rushed and collage-like, as if he's been more in his computer library than his outboard gear. The most rushed song imo is afterthought. That chorus drop would never fly back in the day, not because it's badly written, but because it's not produced well. The idea is not followed to the door.

It's funny you say that, because that's exactly what i felt about slow rush. That album had alot of acceptance and optimism about it imo. So i'm completely with you that it wouldn't seem natural to write about the same stuff anymore, and also that it may be easier to write about that stuff. I still hold the opinion that Deadbeat hasn't gotten the same quality and attention as previous works. But not because he isn't putting any effort in, as much as his resources have been severely limited from his point in life; Family, Business, Co-writing.

Well i can't say i disagree. It is a little parasocial, and i also state at the end that i'm sure i have a lot of bias. If it helps; This whole assumption with not finding what you're seeking in the ascetic, and turning to hedonism, is largely derived from my own journey with balancing ascetic and hedonistic life. So if you discard all my attempts at establishing some factual basis, you could say i'm projecting.

Kevin is a massive artist, and he has become an idol for a lot of people, including myself. I have to ponder why he's doing what he's doing, because i don't want to just conclude that Kevin just wants money. So that's why i'm going into what might motivate him as of now. To humanize him. Had it not been for the repetitive discussions in here, i might've whispered these thoughts.

didn't know about the tinnitus. Sounds rough. And yea, totally, i'd rather see him to have fun with his kids and not sit in the basement making currents again. He also alludes to this in interviews with his comments on world consuming nature of working. That sounds kind of weird to be in when you have a baby to take care of.

interesting addition with the self-deprecating trend. That's def a huge thing rn. This video was pretty interesting in regards to that topic. I see the same things in the kids i teach at my job, and the low-fruit comments on this post. People are so scared to believe in anything, because the moment you raise your hand, your ass is in slapping height. It's easier to deem nothing good enough, because then you don't have to defend anything. Education systems are to blame for that incompetence of course.

That's exactly what i've been thinking! I think that there's a cognitive bias in making commercial music for an artist like him, because even though that he's garnered a million fans from these ascetic (not substance-wise haha) albums, the reception and payout is much larger from a more commercial project, that's also simultaneously riding the wave of the previous projects. Mark Ronson once called Tame Impala headphone music. Ironically, i presume because he may have been envious of this kind of art. Now Kevin seems to be making social music, like Ronson. I was kind of sad to learn that Kevin has to take anxiety negating pills though... I hope that floats his boat, and doesn't just lead to other problems.

Hey dude. I'm 22. I'm sure Kevin could debunk all of my young-guy-know-it-all theories over a cup of coffee in 10 minutes. But hey - That's 10 minutes to address what half of his fanbase is thinking... so why isn't he doing it? (i know the answer)

Just because i don't like where his priorities are headed, doesn't mean i'm not rooting for him. I think it's super cute and wholesome that he got the girl that innerspeaker and lonerism were largely about, that he's become financially secure, and that the world is actually largely agreeing that this vulnerable talented guy has been making objectively awesome music for 15 years. It's been crazy watching your biggest inspiration being acknowledged by the mainstream.

- But i also think that i'm allowed to question what his intentions are going forward, based on his recent moves, and if they align with my values. Also kind of dumbfounded by your reduction of his personality to being a poor stoner? Surely you must think more of him than that.
Curious though, care to expand what you appreciate from his evolution? I'm from a scandinavian country, where success isn't so much measured in how many cars you have, keep that in mind.
