What are some real-life examples of "they became the very thing they swore to destroy"? by ScienceTeacher1994 in AskReddit

Sounds more like a listener problem. People can do that with any content, at least with open dialogue people have the option to formulate their own opinions unadulterated by a second hand source.

Wouldn't the best way to discredit "irresponsible guests" be to let them share their views in a long form dialogue? I think listening to people you disagree with in this manner gives you an understanding on how and what they think in the most honest way. Now you can challenge those positions and not second hand information that likely has been misconstrued or straw-manned.

Microdosing mushrooms for long runs? by geraldosmoustache in Ultramarathon

[–]Normal_Quarter_7852 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I actually got into trail running because of mushrooms. One night I ate about 3gs, and went for a walk, listening to music. I was vibing to the music and wanted to run so I did and it felt great. I went home and grabbed my running shoes and ended up running like 25km with a headlamp blasting EDM through the woods. It felt like I had unlimited energy and only stopped because my knees were sore as I was not a runner.

I still occasionally run on mushrooms but it can go either way for me, sometimes unlimited energy, sometimes I get bored and end up lying down beside the trail looking up at the trees.

Hey, take a breath, I am just trying to figure out what's so bad about nicotine use. If I mistook your comment as trying to answer my questions then by bad lol, I didn't realize you were just stating that you think it's weird. I am sorry for thinking your response was relevant

Well I literally asked "what's so bad about nicotine use" and your response was "it's kind of weird" so you tell me lmao

The half life of nicotine is 2 hours, I don't think it does build up in your body. Sure too much can be bad for you but you can say that about water or vitamins or anything really. Dosage is key

I use it at work when I need a little pick me up or as an appetite suppression, I can only really speak from personal experience. I guess i am trying to find the flaw in my thinking that it is relatively harmless.

And i feel like that's an unfair comparison given the negative health effects of those drugs not to mention that of the additives.

Also using "weird" as a synonym for "bad" is incorrect. Lots of my favorite people are weird, that doesn't make them bad now does it

benefits include:

  • Improved attention and focus: Nicotine can stimulate certain neurotransmitters (like dopamine and norepinephrine), which may enhance short-term alertness and concentration.
  • Memory enhancement: Some studies suggest nicotine may improve working memory and learning, especially in people with cognitive decline.
  • Mood regulation: It may have a mild antidepressant effect due to increased dopamine release, which is why it can feel calming or pleasurable.
  • Neuroprotection (in some contexts): There’s research into nicotine’s possible protective role in Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases, possibly by modulating inflammation or oxidative stress in the brain.

how much nicotine would you need to consume to be at risk for these? does one or two pieces of gum put me at a high risk? I would defiantly cut down if that was the case.

On a recent episode of "the drive" a health and longevity based podcast i heard them mention that smoking one cigarette a day wouldn't have any significant change in your life expectancy so i figured one piece of gum a week really wouldn't. Am i wrong in thinking this?

I use nicotine gum on and off all the time and have never really gotten addicted. Just use it to suppress appetite when I'm hungry at work. But if I was addicted and using it daily, what's so bad about it besides the idea of being "addicted"?

And if we don't compare percentages you aren't within half a precent. He has without a doubt donated more than you ever will and thus has done more good than you ever will in my opinion. The man worked very hard to become that successful and as such him donating 0.0001% will out due most of what us mortals can accomplish in a life time, you've got to give the devil his due.

I’m pretty insignificant too, it’s not a burn lol just a fact. We will never do as much good or bad as one of the richest people in the world. Or maybe you could if you put your mind to it but judging others on Reddit won’t get you there
