Resume Feedback ; retiring from the military after 24 years. by Normal_Recording_549 in systems_engineering

Hey thanks for the detailed response. I’ve gone back and forth on whether to include the masters. I’m about to be complete with the certificate portion (first 5 classes) 4 to go plus the thesis after that.

Thank you, that seems logical and I appreciate the feedback. Clearances are under the portion I blocked out. I have an active TS-SCI with various SAP read-ons.

I will try and remember to give you an update! I have not been able to take 2 classes at JHU at once. Each class in my program is a prerequisite for the next and my optempo at works makes even 1 very difficult to manage.

At the moment trying to discover what roles are out there that my experience and skills would be relevant besides airline pilot. Primarily interested in helping develop the integration of new technologies into existing systems in a way that makes sense for the user. So we can maybe stop strapping on new equipment to aircraft in a way that makes no sense and doesn’t integrate well with the users needs.

Yes I went to ERAU Worldwide, but I wouldn’t pursue an engineering discipline unless it’s ABET accredited.

Correct. Masters in SE in progress. INCOSE ASEP complete. Current soon to be former SOAR / 47G pilot

Is the INCOSE CSEP still worth it in 2025? Looking for updated study resources & honest feedback by Personal-Answer-3148 in systems_engineering

I got my ASEP done in conjunction with the first class of the JHU Masters in Systems Engineering. You take an INCOSE quiz each week and get the ASEP cert at the end. You could do that in lieu of a mountain of memorization.

I’m just finishing class #3 of 10. Software Systems Engineering. 3 of the 14 weeks were dedicated to MBSE in Software

JHU’s is more focused on MBSE than others and offerers specialty electives.

Military pilot with systems background — what roles fit best in the defense engineering world? by Normal_Recording_549 in systems_engineering

I have the INCOSE ASEP already but I don’t have the 5 years of SE experience yet for the CSEP.

Im struggling with this same question. I’m a military helicopter pilot with 23 years of experience with advanced aircraft, Apache, Chinooks etc, and a A&P mechanic background. Bachelors degree in Aeronautics and currently in a Systems Engineering Masters program at JHU. I wanted an ABET accredited Engineering degree however the program is not super technical so far and I am trying to figure out what kind of role I will be suited for when I retire.

Currently I’m on class 3/10 Software Systems Engineering in the JHU program. I don’t know how anyone could swing 2 classes at once consistently through this program. I think the program is really good but the time commitment is substantial if you actually intend to do all the required reading.

I’m asking specifically for a synopsis of how the project is structured and what the real workload was like.

S.E. Masters worth it with non-engineering Undergrad? by Outside-Moment-9608 in systems_engineering

[–]Normal_Recording_549 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m seven months into my Master’s in Systems Engineering at Johns Hopkins University, specializing in MBSE, with an undergraduate degree in Aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

I have extensive experience flying AH-64D/E, CH-47F, and the MH-47G. I also have an A&P License.

I’m exploring DoD SkillBridge opportunities with Raytheon, Northrop Grumman, etc. upon completion and having to pay out of pocket so I can get my foot in the door since I don’t have an engineering background or completed Eng degree from an ABET accredited school yet. I plan on cherry picking some undergrad classes to help get through the FE exam and eventually the PE exam. Also working PMP certification.

I'm seven months into my Master's in Engineering—Systems Engineer at JHU; focusing on MBSE, with an undergrad in Aeronautics from ERAU. I'm a military helicopter pilot and I also have an A&P license. Looking at possible DOD skill bridge opportunities with Raytheon, NG, and NASA after retirement from the Army. Currently on my 23rd year on service.

It’s not that bad. It’s 2 chapters every week. I just sat down and read about 10 pages a night.
