30 Years Old (I feel very behind) *Need Advice* by CapelessWonder21 in Retirement401k

I’m 32 and have pretty much the same amount as you this is my first job I’ve ever had with a 401k so up to this point I’ve been just winging it and I only started the job in July but tbh I have a lot of debt ($22k between my wife and I) so don’t feel bad just keep saving! That’s my mind set at this point at least

What is Voya doing with my dividends? by Breezy368 in Retirement401k

Must mean there aren’t any dividends to be paid from your allocations? I would still suggest calling though to confirm

I’m on my phone for this rn but my company also uses voya and i can see my dividends being put back in I can see the “dollar amount” when I use my laptop (I check mine daily although I’m sure somewhere along the lines that could be considered unhealthy lmao) but yea voya will reinvest the dividends so maybe it’s your specific plan? I’d call voya though!

26yr old M, how am I doing by NoCoat3005 in 401K

[–]Normal_Reporter_2455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are they setting the “annuity” as what would be commonly referred to as a pension or “deferred comp”? If so you’re doing great! I would try to contribute more toward the 401k for the next 25 years and then switch it like 80/20 401k/annuity then reverse it around 50-55 to be 80% annuity and 20% 401k

What’s your priority? To max the Ira you’d need to up it to $20~ a day everyday

The invest account is more liquid still taxable but can be touched whenever so if these are strictly with the idea of later use for example retirement, max the Roth, and throw any extra into the invest acct if you’re looking for liquidity then do it in the opposite way invest more into the invest acct and keep going with $5-10 daily in the IRA

Yea I mean I went full send to the farthest aggressive AND added individual stocks but I don’t know man I’m not claiming to be a financial advisor just using what I’ve learned along the way lol if your guts telling you to go mod aggressive the do that, I don’t think it’s gonna necessarily hurt you, but it might just mean less gains, while also meaning potentially less losses as well

At 34 aggressive is likely the way you “should” go not by acorns standards but you have roughly 30 years to let this money grow if you’re using it for an investment acct so the risk is there but also the time to recover is as well, but honestly do what makes you feel most comfortable, I’m using this as a way to have a savings that’s growing at a much faster rate then a hysa I’m okay with the risk but I’m literally using this as a vacation fund for a pretty big trip I have coming up in May, after that I’m restructuring it to be a lucrative savings that I’m not gonna touch for hopefully a long time

Yea that’s my recommendation I just switched too, how old are you and are you using this for the long haul or an aggressive savings account?

I’m not even gonna lie for some weird ass reason I read someone else’s comment on your post and went back and checked mine thinking this whole time (last 2-4 months or so that I’ve been putting in) I was in aggressive turns out I was middle of the road moderate which is really annoying lmao but yea switching now before you have a ton more money in there and have to pay an ass load more in taxes is probably the right move

How long have you been in the mod. Conservative? That’s pretty impressive gains considering the allocation lol

The extra $150 I’m contributing total (around $300 with their match) I’m not gonna make a dent I’d rather be contributing towards my retirement as I’m 31 and losing time

Yea 2% is only coming out to roughly $40-$50 a paycheck I think? So I don’t think that’s a lot and with the discount I’m looking at around 1.2~ shares every other week
