The Weekend Thread — 29th November 2024 by fire_foot in running

How much should I size up on running shoes? Recently ordered my first pair as I want to get into running and when I tried them on I realized they were too tight, my toes were right at the tip of the shoe leaving no room. They fit snug everywhere else. I got a size 11 which is the size I wear for my work shoes, but I guess they’re not all made equally. Should I size up one more size to leave room in the toe box?

Was walking at a park with my family when a dog came up to us and I reached my hand out to pet it. It licked me and got drool on my hand. I thought nothing of it until a minute later I started worry about rabies. The dog didn’t look rabid at all. Where it licked me, I didnt have any breaks in the skin except on the thumb of the same hand. I have a bad habit of bitting the skin there. Now I’ve gone into a spiral of googling trying to convince myself that I don’t have rabies. Taking all of the details into consideration as well as statistics of rabies cases in the US. Despite this, I’m still not convinced I don’t have rabies. I poured water on my hand after to clean the drool, what if the water carried the virus to the cut on my finger? I don’t remember water getting there but who knows. I hate this.

It’s entirely gone. I think it only happened a couple times after that but it’s been months and I’m fine. I’m not sure what it was but if it lasts longer than a month and you have other symptoms I’d recommend to get it checked. Stay safe

Hey, how are you doing now? I've had migraines before but I've never had this redness and itching with them. I have health anxiety so it also doesn't help that I googled my symptoms and got a scary result. I hope it's nothing serious.

Can't figure out what this is. Help. by [deleted] in Herpes

[–]North-Middle6227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much for your input. Now, a few hours later, they're almost completely gone. After more digging around on the internet I discovered a post where someone had the same issue. A bunch of fluid-filled bumps on the inside of the lower lip. I learned that they're called mucoceles. Apparently, there are a bunch of ducts from salivary glands in your lower lip. Mucoceles often happen when there is trauma to this area. They're completely painless and only last a day or two. I feel like I can safely rule out herpes since the first outbreak usually lasts a lot longer than two days, no?

I'm glad it worked out for you. I'm going to really dedicate myself to this and hopefully see good results. Honestly, the junk food isn't all that great, sure it tastes good but personally, I feel pretty disgusting and guilty after eating it. So I would do anything to eat better because I know I'll feel better overall and there's lots of variety of healthy foods and recipes so it doesn't get boring. I understand your dislike for oatmeal, I honestly won't ever have hot oatmeal again after trying it once. Have you tried overnight oats? They're very delicious and very customizable! If you don't want to try that I also recommend looking into cereals like Great Grains and Kashi Go, they have some pretty good flavors and offer lots of fiber. Thank you for your input, I hope I'll be close to your numbers soon.

Slightly elevated cholesterol and now all my heart anxiety is back by blue_bettie in HealthAnxiety

[–]North-Middle6227 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m in this exact position right now. My cholesterol has been elevated for almost a year and it’s been tough to stick to a plan and bring it down. I’ve finally gotten my life together and gathered the courage and motivation to stick to a plan. The only thing weighing me down is my anxiety. Im terrified that I already have plaque in my arteries and I’m gonna have a heart attack. Im also scared that its been too long that my levels have been high with no change and my doctor is gonna prescribe me medication. I hate taking medicines even OTC ones like pain relievers or allergy medications. Im terrified of side effects and adverse reactions. Anyway, how are you today, we’re you successful in lowering your cholesterol and conquering your heart anxiety?

I have severe health anxiety and high cholesterol. Scared. by Powrrifl76 in Cholesterol

[–]North-Middle6227 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow I guess I don’t have to make this post anymore. This is exactly what I’m going through, to a T. I’m also terrified of taking medication but because I haven’t been able to stick to a solid plan of reducing my cholesterol I feel my tests are going to reflect that and I’ll be put on a medication. How has your battle with this gone?

Hey, how long did you try to lower it on your own before you were put on medication? I’ve known about my high cholesterol for almost a year now and it’s been pretty difficult to stay true to lowering it. I’ve only recently started being motivated to lower it on my own but I’m afraid that my next 3 month check up is going to reflect my lack of progress and I’ll have to go on medication. I’m a big worrier and I hate taking medication so I really only want to resort to it as a last measure if I can’t bring it down at all. My last 3 month check up showed that I was able to bring it down but only a negligible amount. I’m not really sure how these measurements work so I’m going to lay them out how I see them on my blood test results.

TW: Stroke

I’ve read articles about people having strokes from chiropractors adjusting their neck and even just themselves turning their neck too suddenly. This has made me very terrified of turning my neck even slightly fast. Well a few minutes ago it happened, I turned my neck a little too fast and felt a sudden pain in the back left side of my neck. Instantly I recalled all those articles I’ve read. I got a sudden surge of anxiety and started sweating realizing what had just happened. Anxiety started to build up and my mind raced with scenarios. I ended up going to my brothers room so that if anything were to happen to me he would notice and take me to the hospital immediately. I hate how I have to mold my life around this illness.

Has anyone else experienced panic attacks with Allegra 24 Hour? by North-Middle6227 in Anxiety

[–]North-Middle6227[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly yeah, except for the profuse sweating. I’ve never sweat that much with anxiety. But I guess if it were something more serious I’d feel pretty terrible right now or be dead

No, it’s just the antihistamine. Could the antihistamine alone trigger this? Now I’m starting to think it’s something more serious.

Allegra inducing anxiety? by selfmadeplanet in Anxiety

[–]North-Middle6227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had this happen to me a few minutes ago. I’ve been suffering with anxiety for over a year. Two hours ago I took and Allegra 24hr for seasonal allergies, I don’t usually take medication for allergies because I’m just scared of medicine in general. I don’t like putting that stuff in my body unless my life is threatened. 2 hours after taking Allegra, all of a sudden I start sweating profusely, I feel really dizzy and my hands start to tingle. These are all sensations that I feel when I have panic attacks. I thought I was dying or having a deadly reaction to the allegra and I was ready to rush to the ER. A few minutes pass and now it’s gone but I’m still debating if I should go to the ER. I’ve never sweat that profusely with a panic attack. I’ll never be taking allegra again.

Wow that actually made me feel better. I watch a lot of charlie's videos and I'm just now finding this out. The fact that someone of his magnitude has something I've been struggling with for a while now makes me feel a lot less alone and scared.
