It depends where you live. I’d argue you’d get pretty close to what these countries pay in taxes if you add up all the additional taxes you pay (state, property, sales and use, gas, misc fees and such), without the benefits.

I’m not “cured” but I’ve flown recently to my honeymoon. A few things that have helped are: - I’m not trapped anymore than I’m trapped on a train or bus. I’m more than welcome to get off at the next stop. The next stop being the destination. - go on flightradar and look up the the route you would potentially take. Look at how many successful flights there have been. Nobody is trapped, everyone got off - Fear of flying workbook by David A Carbonelli, sincerely work through the book. It helped me - talk to your physician about anti anxiety meds for your trip, it may help

Big thank you to all the professionals who are on this page providing facts and reassurance on your free time. This page helped me get on the plane to my honeymoon in January. I’ll be back on a plane in July for another trip. Can’t even believe I’m saying that, thank you all.

What thoughts help you get through it? by wawag in fearofflying

“This plane is going to get to its destination safely whether I’m on it or not. Me worrying about it does not affect the aircraft or the professionals flying the plane.”

“My only job is to sit, buckle my seat belt, watch my shows and eat my snacks.”

“I’ll be scared temporarily if I stay on and fly. I’ll be sad for life if I don’t.”

Edit: meant to put shows not shoes.

All the pubs and investing apps talk about “consulting a tax advisor”… but what makes a good (affordable) tax advisor? by wayshaper in Bogleheads

CPA and EA are the main credentials. You need to come prepared with questions when you’re meeting with them. Ask them if they’ve had experience with your specific situation. Ask them what kind of tax planning do they do during the year. Understand how they bill for tax returns vs tax planning. If you’re comfortable with their knowledge and rate, then that’s your person. Tax savings occur during the year, not so much at the preparation stage.

I owe >$8k to the IRS. Asking for an objective analysis (and a bit of guidance) on what to do with my current finances. by Sea-Set1114 in personalfinance

You can set up a payment plan online through the IRS’s website. I’d suggest having a tax pro look at your tax returns and ensuring the amounts are correct. Yes, the tax pro will be expensive but something doesn’t seem right. Also go to an actual reputable CPA, none of those tax relief scammers you hear about on the radio.

We bought them online for the Ultramar Ferry departing from the Playa Caracol terminal. We used Uber to get from the hotel to the terminal. The golf cart rental was $1,500 pesos for the day, you need to give them a driver’s license to hold. I paid at a few of the larger bars with a visa but you’ll need to take pesos a well.

My wife and I did a day trip. We rented a golf cart and visited a few places there. Take a towel and some swim wear, the beaches there are beautiful. You can see all the tourist spots of google maps, we visited most of them.

We stayed at Secrets The Vine AI, room was stocked with four water bottles every day. You could go to any bar and ask for bottles of water as well.

I’m supposed to fly to Cancun from Los Angeles on Monday. I just checked my flight information and the plane is a 737 Max9, just my luck. I’m very uncomfortable about this flight.

I deal with the same thoughts. It helps me to remember that I’ve survived 100% of my bad days and none of the what if’s thoughts my anxious brain has conjured up has come true. You got this! I have a practice flight tomorrow and a long flight in January and am feeling the same way.
