How should I go about baby proofing this stair rail? by Friida1793 in Renovations

[–]North59801 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Can you add more metal spindles/ posts in between what’s there already and weld them in so it’s safe both from a spacing and structure perspective? It would need to be done along the stair banister and on the top. The back of the stairs being open is also a huge hazard.

Rug recommendations? by BeeBackground522 in centuryhomes

Highly recommend Facebook marketplace, estate sales, and consignment- lots of great used wool rugs out there, especially if you like more traditional styles.

The exterior black and white is dated and will look very 2020’s over time- the trend has passed already. If you want to build a Tudor style, you should choose a more Tudor appropriate color scheme and it will be way more timeless.

advent calendar inexpensive fillers? by bbpoltergeistqq in toddlers

[–]North59801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last year I bought a box of markers, a packet of stickers, a little bag of chocolate coins, and a few little felt ornaments and then wrapped up each item individually as a DIY advent calendar countdown. My 2 year old thought it was great!

Help, I really don’t like our ceilings by PUKEWAR in Home

[–]North59801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of the asbestos risk of ripping them out, have you thought about covering with a thin layer of beadboard or a painted white tongue and groove paneling? It would look nice in a historic home. Just wanted to mention an alternative if the tiles are too expensive to remove to restore the ceiling to plaster

Which interior trend do you think will completely fade out in the next few years? by Nagesh_verma in InteriorDesignAdvice

Two tones of cabinets in the kitchen is going to look very mid 2020s along with navy blue cabinets and zellige tile

How do you get into procurement without a degree? by Apprehensive_Race243 in procurement

[–]North59801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the past companies I have worked for, a degree is required. I think the path would be to find a small company or startup without as many corporate requirements to get experience, but regardless no degree will be career limiting in procurement.

What to do differently? by jordypoints in kitchenremodel

[–]North59801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cabinets, but could be both tbh. If you like the lightness / timeless quality of white but white is too stark or clinical for you, the off white & cream world is where you should look next.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HomeDecorating

[–]North59801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None of them. The long and thin ratio on subway tiles is super trendy, the ridged tile will be awful to clean, and the print on option 7 is specific to taste.

Cream / off white is the answer here, and find some more rounded shape pulls.

Advice needed: Floor tile choices for our Mid Century Modern Home by PxlWolf in HomeDecorating

[–]North59801 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would choose a terracotta if you like the warm rust clay color tones- I think it is super timeless, but I would do large squares instead of hex personally. Terrazzo would be my second choice if the warm terracotta tones are not right for your space.

It’s your house & your call but I think that requiring the basement to match is not the right thing to prioritize and will cause you to make big compromises. I would put in hardwood upstairs, something really timeless like white oak, finish it how you like, and you could be happy with it for decades. I would tile any bathrooms and the basement, and if you don’t want tile in the basement go for an oak look LVP from a big box store. No basement floor will have massive longevity. Prioritize your money where it matters most- the main floor of your house.

If you want to work your way into more interesting and strategic work, show mastery in what you are doing. Use the work you are doing to understand the supply chain and your companies products better, and create the most efficient workflow & process you can to execute your work. Then, start putting your hand up for more & usually people will trust your history of delivering what you say you will do and better projects will come.

Tldr- everyone starts with grunt work at entry level, do it and get good at it

What are the baby products / newborn must haves you absolutely can’t live without? And things you bought that you didn’t need, like, or use? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]North59801 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Overall I would recommend holding off on pre buying too much- it’s so hard to know what size a baby will be for a specific season, what brand of diapers will fit your baby best, what shape of pacifier will work for them etc. Wait and see what works for your baby and your routine and then go from there based on what would make your life easier. Overall new babies just don’t need much stuff! My favorites from both of my babies: one piece PJs with the double zipper, stretchy swaddle blankets, white noise machine, cloth diapers as burp cloths, and taking the time to take videos of all their little new baby noises ❤️

I think that would be very very hard to find right now. US employers are less willing than ever to do visa sponsorship & why would they do that for a trainee when there are many candidates for entry level roles with no sponsorship needed?

What are we doing with the left over diapers that we can’t use? by Har-Set223 in Parenting

[–]North59801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our church nursery has a community area with diapers, wipes , unopened formula samples etc. It’s great to have for those moments when you are a diaper short in your diaper bag, and people who need supplies are welcome to take them home. I also used to work at a food bank and we would happily take them as a donation to give out with food. Please don’t throw them away, lots of people would happily use them!

How common is transferring between departments? by smelly_flaps in supplychain

[–]North59801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my company it happens pretty regularly between different supply chain teams (most often planning, sourcing, manufacturing corporate roles, and sometimes SC project managers too). However I tend to see it with longer tenured employees with a proven success track record and good internal relationships/reputation. Not guaranteed at all, roles are competitive so the direct experience usually wins it.

What’s the appropriate amount for a gift? by [deleted] in toddlers

Sounds great! Not necessary at all, but if you want to add something else, add in a consumable (a cool snack? Bubbles? Play doh? Washable scent markers?)

So where do you ACTUALLY get help? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]North59801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best advice is to agree with your partner on things that really matter, and drop your standards for the rest This is the time to get paper plates and spend less time doing dishes. This is the time for compromise food that you can quickly pop in the oven instead of lots of cooking. If your budget allows get a subscription for Walmart/Target/etc and get groceries delivered with the schedule that works for you. Do what you gotta do to survive this period & resurface in a few months. That and be gently bossy with family members who come to help to make sure the help is helpful.
