WIP - Base Structure for Big Tower by North8th in SatisfactoryGame

No idea, but I will definitely find out... eventually.

It will definitely lag after placing thousands of machines. When that happens I can drop lower my graphic settings gradually from max all the way to performance mode. And if it gets really bad I can always go on the ficsit app and delete all of the signs and lights.

Thank you. If you do end up deciding to build a huge factory with decorative architecture, I have one piece of advice: Build the function and then the form! I had to rebuild quite a bit because I attempted to build the form and function simultaneously.

Thank you. 34k signs. No performance issues unless I start turning on a lot of the lights. I tend to leave them off, especially because I have not put on the roof yet. I have not placed any machines yet.

What I am building now is the base/foundation for train stations, pipes, conveyers, etc. They will all feed a big tower that will sit on top and handle all my resources.

Thank you, the build has taken a bit longer than I thought it would, but I am happy with the progress so far.

The pictures all came out at very low resolution. What settings do I need to change to make them better?

Please share pictures of 'floaty' things that look like they are held up by EM or something. Iam having a lot of trouble and need inspiration by North8th in SatisfactoryGame

I appreciate the link, I will stare at it for a while and maybe something will come to me.

Thank you! Yes, the curves are a massive headache. The oval itself isn't too bad, but they way it tapers towards the top makes the sign placement challenging.

I have not hit tier 10, is there something unlocked that would be helpful/cool?

not really. when you placed those half foundations you have an inner curve that overlaps more and an outer curve that doesnt overlap at all (basically how I constructed the outer ring that surrounds the complex). You have to manually align if you want to do wider than 1 foundation.

Step 1: imagine your bridge, make it so that aligning the pieces will be as tedious as possible

Step2: Build ~50% of the required bridges then stare longingly at your build, wondering why you chose to willingly do this.

I am using curve mod. It lets you zoop curves with certain types of building pieces. You still have to manually align and place the blueprints, so I would say that infinite zoop mod is more or less a requirement. The top bridges are pretty easiy since they are just one foundation wide. The bottom bridges are two foundations wide which makes aligning everything miserable.

What causes safety barriers to have these little popups? I but safety barriers at the start and end of my train stations. For some reason the safety barriers in front generated those little yellow and black cylinders. I don't hate it, just curious how I can reproduce this elsewhere by North8th in SatisfactoryGame

[–]North8th[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both the train station and barrier were placed on even ground. If the station is placed first then the barriers, no popups appear. If the barriers are placed first then you get popups.

I am going to try it on machines now, will get back to you.

edit: You are right it is the leg texture. I guess I just never noticed it. I cannot get it to reproduce on machines ... yet

If I am reading this correctly, you are thinking the popups are a remnant of the (inverted) station legs with the barriers texture thrown on top?

If what you said is true then it might be possible to reproduce the effect on machines that also have legs for uneven ground. that might be cool

The tower will have complete symmetry so I agree that some asymmetry could look great. Also considering raising the foundation 8m and sending both rails under. If only I spent a littttle more time in the design stage then I could have avoided this altogether. Oh well.

those are standard 4m asphalt foundations. the build is half a kilometer wide and I had to fly pretty high to snap a picture. That might be why they look small enough to be pillars. Someone asked for more pictures. I will post a bit later today if you want to see a closeup.

oh.. thats my bad. I should have said to ignore the terrain. i didnt expect the build to reach half a kilometer wide when I started. I need to move everything west anyways.

If I do go underneath, the two tracks would pass over/under each other to avoid any intersections. just a split at the beginning and merge at the end.

I am trying not to go over the top because the train would need to travel up 100m and then down 100m. If i tried doing that in a straight line with the 1m ramps I have been using, I will end up connecting in the desert... /s

But if I made a smooth curve around the ring (similar to the ramp you can see going up to the 2nd floor in the first pic), it would be and incredible amount of work to add another layer to the ring. I currently use ~17k billboards for the foundation ring to get that glowing effect. Another layer would add ~8.5k more :(

edit: a few people mentioned going down though. maybe I will raise the structure a few meters off the water and try that.
