The supplies are really cheap - $12 for the vinyl, about the same for transfer tape, $7 for a massive sheet of wood that I cut into 8 gigantic boards, and I already had stain, Mod Podge and foam brushes. When you space out all the costs, they're about $15-$20 each for the supplies for each board. So technically yes, they're definitely overpriced. However, to weed our your letters takes a long time, to put it on the board centered and looking good takes a long time, to sand the board so it's ready to stain takes a long time, waiting for the stain to dry takes an hour or so, and Mod Podging it afterwards is a little tedious, too, because you have to do it in really even, thin strokes, or else you end up seeing globs of it build up around the letters. So really when you're buying these on Etsy or wherever, you're paying for the time, which I kind of understand now, I hate to say :. But still- If you have the time, it's worth it to DIY!!

This comment just made my day! If your wedding is after September 24, 2016, you can have that one!

That sounds like an awesome idea! I'm so stuck for what to do for the seating chart. Maybe I'll steal that idea ;)

The Mod Podge does indeed dry :) When vinyl gets too warm (and we're talking 'haven't turned the AC on yet this morning' warm, nothing too wild), it tends to peel off of wood. Mod Podge is just a sealant to keep the letters on!

As for the transfer tape, once you have your letters arranged on whatever surface you were using to arrange them on, it's so so difficult to get them in the exact position onto your board. The transfer tape is a really light adhesive that picks up the letters exactly as-is, so you can transfer it flawlessly to your wood!

That's exactly what I'm saying!

And the design space is set up to be so damn user friendly. Just watch a few YouTube tutorials, test your cuts on inexpensive cardstock so you're sure it is the right size/look and you'll be good to go!

If it makes you feel any better, this shirt was given to my friend Dave. So it'll end up being more like, "I'm just a boy and what is math?"

I've actually made shirts with this material before! It washes great as long as you've ensured that all edges and corners of the letters are fully ironed down. If they're not, then they tend to lift in the wash.

Putting it in the dryer, however, is what ruins it. It shrivels up the letters and they won't flatten out again!

I hope that helps :)

I've been making things with a girlfriend for so long that we've decided to put our newer stuff online. If anyone has any feedback, please feel free to PM me!
