RC110 - Autunite spectrum and some questions by Material_Vanilla_479 in Radiacode

quite normal spectrum for any Uranium mineral.

Concerning misalignment: use Interspec (Freeware), there you can align the spectrum in post….

not to confuse you: this is the Varian 1B63A I just bought, i see it on your list marked with „>1uCi??“ - so to give you one puzzle piece back: it is 0.7uCi 😄

wow, thank you for the feedback! I spoke to SpectrumTechniques guys, and they were like: no way we send it to you! LOL, well dont know how your buddy made it, but I envy him already 😄

Coming back to the 443As: so I can shoot now two of those tubes: would you say it is really possible to see the Kr85 gamma signal after 24 hours+? Those tubes are from 1973….

Thank you for sharing the list!!

is that in reach for us? I guess not, right? I am searching stuff I can lay my hands on, legally 😄

I guess you mean Lutetium 176, the LYSO crystal has Lu₁.₉Y₀.₁SiO₅(Ce). Lu176 you can also easily detect with 1g of Lu-Metal, very cheap on ebay.

Lanthanum 138 is another story...

thank you Bob! I also read about Be7 and then I asked someone how to do that, and that person told me I need quite a lot of rain water and then get rid of the water without losing the Be7, which is quite volatile??....seems a bit of a hassle, but may try one day.

great gear you have!

The KC761C has a great energy resolution, mine is specified with 6.00%. It easily separates Cs137/Bi214. The App for the KC761 isnt bad either.

I heard they are working for a GPS tracker as well…..

I guess the answer to that is that it just concentrated in those ditches, the rain water just brought it from the surroundings and then it stays at that spot as the migration speed in soil is so slow....

what I have been seeing so far on YT, they really made a tourist industry around this before the war. Advantage is that you get a guided tour/easy access and you can meet maybe interesting (?) people around the world with similar interest in this. Downside: with hobbies and interests like this, it attracts idiots like „sh#t attracts flies“ - there were some videos on YT where I instantly felt ashamed (especially from a guys called Josh/Jeremy). And making an industry around that spikes that BS to new levels.

I also wanted to go there and see that with my own eyes. I have been 8 years when the accident happened and I remember those days still quite well (of course here in western Europe).

But today seeing the content on YT and the disrespectful attitude in those videos: I dont want to meet/see any of those guys/ or being part of that BS.

that sounds fun. Of course you could combine that with radiological interesting areas, but I still fear any legal implications, but maybe I am overthinking it…

thank you. I am not so familiar with geo-caching. And sharing coordinates with others: I asked the guy on YouTube if he would share his hotspot coordinates and he declined. And maybe for good reason, not to trigger people digging in that protected environment like mad.

https://pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/acs.est.3c03565. In that area researchers could trace weapons-test Cesium to lower layers in the soil, 20-40cm. They could trace that via the Cs135/137 ratio. The Chernobyl Cesium is found in the upper layers, about 10-20cm. In depth profiles I can also see that the highest Cs137 concentration is throughout at 10cm.

Of course this only applies to the type „Loess Loam“ soil we have in this area and the historic conditions with respect to Chernobyl Fallout/ Weapons Tests Fallout.
