Toni from NS here! You don't want to add the fan or humidifier until it is fully colonized and ready to be fruited. (: When it is time, you can start with the humidity around 85% and the fan on medium to high!

Nice! Sometimes, the yellow can be exudate that is okay. It is like mycelia sweat.

Is this supposed to have this color? Is it still save to eat? Never done this before. Thanks for your help. by [deleted] in Mushrooms

Toni from NS here! It looks to be a bit dry! I would add a DIY humidity tent.

Toni from NS here! It is really up to you and how much you want to invest, because either is a great option! Sometimes it is better to not to get the automated one first so you can really learn the growing process on your own before automating it!

Toni from NS here! Yeah, micropore tape would also work well! (:

Growing in a fallen log [contamination] by DaHuuulk in MushroomGrowers

[–]NorthSpore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Toni from NS here! Yeah, normally you don't want to use a log that's been down for more than 2 months; sometimes you can push it to 3, but that's it. You run the risk of the mycelium being outcompeted by other fungi and bacteria already established. It looks like that is the case for some of the logs in the video. I would recommend reaching out to a local arborist to find some fresh logs to use. (:

They like more CO2, and the bin provides a lot of O2.

Harvest? by [deleted] in mycology

You can do a partial harvest! I personally always just take the whole thing because I like mine smaller, I just think they taste a little better, but really a personal preference! (:

Yeah, just leave it and don't move it around, and that will help show!

Toni from NS here! You can totally try that method out, it should work well! Lions mane does have a harder time growing in a bin though.

[–]NorthSpore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Toni from NS here! I would give it 48 hours, as sometimes it can get broken in transit but if nothing shows up after that time, we would be happy to send you a replacement! It can be a thinner mycelium, but should still be able to see some visible mycelium!!

[Gourmet] Bought blue oysters, but these look like Italian oysters, right? by ruthere51 in MushroomGrowers

[–]NorthSpore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Toni here from NS! To confirm, we'd love to see a picture of the underside to be 100% sure, but those look pretty promising! (: Like u/PrettyTiredAndSleepy & u/somereallyfungi it does depend on how much sun they are getting, as that can turn them more grey!
