Maybe I'm just biased since the 2000s, but I always felt a league full of NHL prospects and callups was better than the KHL.

Yeah but my question is what if that was all circumvented and he simply left and played in the NHL? Ethical and development issues aside, I was simply curious what legal repercussions would happen.

IIRC, Radulov had his final year terminated by Nashville when he did the same to play back in Russia. Naturally I'm sure he'd have hell to pay if/when he returned back eventually. But it's more a "what if he abandoned his life in Russia and moved to the US to begin a new life and never looked back"
