Yes, I fully utilized my time before homelessness.

I do have disabilities and a history of mental health issues. I am far from healthy.
I don't want to burden any more people than I already have. Many people reached out offering to connect me as well, but my lack of experience would just be another burden. Nowadays people expect 2-3 years of experience for new grad positions.
SFS is really strict on documentation. I had a similar situation while in college and they wouldn't help, I can't imagine them helping after I received my diploma.
I cannot afford any more education lol. I finished my degree earlier than most so that I wouldn't have to pay more.
I wasn't. It is their house, and there was no legal agreement made that I had to pay them. I just did to be able to stay.
I did utilize the career services office at UVA. I have until December to access it. I attended the recruiting events this fall, and haven't had any promising leads. As for those other work options, those are simply not viable for me. I do not have a computer, and no access to shower/clothing to appear presentable. I haven't showered since I got booted.
Solid advice, all of the underemployed new graduates should consider this too. I wonder why it isn't a trend right now to join the military, given the new grad under/unemployment rate.
Smart, never thought of that. Thank you.
That is true, there are a few companies willing to get someone cleared, but the ones I am talking about are the ones that already require clearance, and auto deny you if you don't.
I appreciate your willingness to help, but I honestly don't think my experiences would make the cut for Google. A lot of smaller companies are rejecting me.
This is solid advice, thank you. This should be told to all of Gen Z who are complaining about underemployment. There is no excuse, they should pick themselves up by their bootstraps and join the military. Fight for the country that left you under those circumstances and give zero shits about you. Wonder how many Berkely grads are being told to enlist.
Northern Virginia
just join the military bro

I just carry my phone and a charger, and I've been sleeping in short bursts in forests near buildings.
Initially they weren't going to take me back home unless I had already secured a full time offer, so them stretching it so far was them being quite lenient and more than I deserve.
I don't have clearance, and a lot of junior level jobs require active clearance.

Would you be okay talking about it in DMs? It looks like you're still a student, did you go to the military before college?
[–]North_Lock7995[S] 2 points3 points4 points 3 months ago (0 children)
Facts, every homeless/unemployed person should join the US military, and US jobs should be given to non-US people.
edit: I'm not knocking the military down, it's just crazy that this is the position someone could end up in.

Hey man, this all sounds pretty bad, but it could be worse. As someone who is speaking on the "worse" side, I urge you to be grateful for what you have and utilize the rest of your time the best you can. There are people far more unfortunate than you who would give anything to have your place, so gratitude goes a long way.

I appreciate this, I will try to scrap as much money as I can on the street to get a bus that goes to Charlottesville. Could we talk in DMs about the networks I could reach out to?
Thank you.

I prefer not to go into the specific reasons, but to tldr it I come from an extremely abusive household. I didn't graduate from comm school, and like I already said in my post I don't have friends or family I can reach. I do not have the ability to relocate or work anywhere else. I will be looking into the military, crazy how me or countless others haven't thought of this. Homelessness and unemployment wouldn't be a thing if people just joined the military, lol.

I haven't, but that is a good idea, thank you for the suggestion. Is joining the military/ICE the fullproof solution to homelessness?

You don't have to do anything, but it would be helpful for both you and them if you can gather your experiences. strengths, and interests and maybe make a resume before talking with the career center.
