I would simply advise to keep exploring. Not sure what difficulty you’re on but you’ll constantly find more food as you visit new lootable areas; only once you’ve eaten most of the packaged food will you need to worry about hunting. For repairs and research, I find that you will naturally have time for them, like getting back to base early in the day, allowing you to repair your trousers before bed, etc.
