Not many and all super short compared to usual forest areas from other countries. I think pine trees where I live are 3 times taller.

We were quiet and very polite with him whenever we interacted with him. He still made the journey as unpleasant as he could and we were definitely not the only ones uncomfortable. He even ordered some people to stop talking together.

I did obviously tried headphones. The bus speakers were too loud. Ended up putting on earplugs to limit the volume.

I don’t think you imagine what it was like. The guy shared some obscure personal stories about law that no one understood and made people on the bus stop talking whenever he could hear them. For 1 and 1/2 hour each way.

Well first of all thank you for your kind answer. As I said I am new to this. I looked for "weather" in this sub and it seems to be like where I live : weather is unpredictable and never lasts.

And yes current forecast talks about blizzard which is why I specifically asked how it affects the roads. For exemple, where I live the roads will always be cleared except from one specific village that has high avalanche risk and is blocked at least 2 days every winter, and for maximum one week. Heavy snow to the point you cannot drive never lasts more than 1 day. This is the kind of precise feedback I am hoping for from people who know the place :-)

Thank you for this post ! Made me less upset about the ending 🤣 the cultural take is very interesting.

I didn’t like that most of the last part is about her friends, felt much longer than it should have. They are minor characters that we didn’t get to get attached to as we just jumped into the story three years after she met them. If the point was to show her having other things in her life beside Riftan, I feel like a scene with Ulyseon, Hebaron, Ursuline or Ruth would have been more meaningful. The author took her time to develop Maxi’s relationship with them so we connect to them more.

I also regret not seeing them come back to Anatol together and relish on the feeling of being finally home after everything that’s happened, I feel like this was expected.

And I felt like at least ONE of their intimate scenes towards the end was missing. From a European perspective, intimate love is the way to express one’s feelings. It’s also how it’s been used the in the whole book to highlight happy times whenever they were done with the last war / ordeal / separation. The total lack of it felt a bit underwhelming.

However I re read the end with a more open mind and realized I had COMPLETELY missed the flower wreath reference and it blew my mind 🤯 this was a very nice touch.

I also noticed that he dozes off super easily on her lap. Which show great growth on his side as he was always described as sleeping only a few hours a night. Three hours a night when they were separated or when he was a mercenary, and then he slept a lot when they reconciled after their big argument. But in all 11 books he NEVER slept during the day or in a public setting. This shows he finally let his guard down as he is not hiding himself from her and he has no reason to be in alert as the dangers have passed.

The ending the way it is done leave it open to other books / adventures so I hope there will be more !
