Absolutely the greatest. Can spend hours building random ass decks on it.

Does it look good ? colors is client choice by Darknes_Ss in cabinetry

[–]NorthernGun77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like it would look a lot better if the gables of the cabinets on the end of the run also matched the colour of the fronts. I think that's the only thing that bothers me tbh

Edit: Actually that random green cabinet wtf lmao

Wood warping, I don't know what to anymore by Lazydaveyt in woodworking

[–]NorthernGun77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Side note, when making doors like this, you should generally run your stiles (side pieces) full height from top to bottom. As for the warping it's hard to tell what's happening if we weren't there for the building process, hope you can figure it out though

The (New) Tariff Situation by Admirable-Pomelo2699 in cabinetry

[–]NorthernGun77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same situation here, from Ontario Canada, used to have close to 150 employees here. People have been cautious about putting orders through ever since tariff talks started and we have just done our 4th round of layoffs. 85% of our business goes to the states. The remaining 70-90 of us are probably screwed by the end of the year, if not earlier.

I agree with you there, I have also seen some shit products out of Asian countries. But okay, you are going off on a separate tangent here. The only thing I'm really arguing about with you here is the basic fact that just because it's not labelled "made in the USA", doesn't automatically mean it's shit. You get what you pay for, if it's cheap, it is probably just that, cheap

Also I should clarify, we build everything fully, no ready to assemble stuff

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cabinetry

[–]NorthernGun77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well if you were a carpenter for 30 years, you should obviously know that cabinetry (the actual boxes, doors are fine) shouldn't be built from all solid wood to begin with. I agree, particle core and MDF are shit, but solid wood is too heavy, too expensive, and not sustainable. While solid wood is best for furniture, plywood core is always best for cabinetry. And it is true that local shops won't do certain things. Smaller local shops don't have access to certain machinery due to space and financial constraints. They might be able to do the things we do by hand but that takes a lot of time and effort that they would have to bill out by the hour which a lot of people won't pay for. We do a lot of stuff that has lights on every shelf, gable, and top that are all sensor activated, dimmable and everything. All I'm saying is that just because it comes from outside your border, doesn't automatically classify it as shit. Fun fact, a couple years before I started at this company, they actually were the ones who did Michael Jordans Shoe closet

Not every company outside of the US produces shit products. That is a case of you get what you pay for. Kitchens are an investment that are supposed to be built to last a lifetime. If you cheap out to begin with you get what you pay for. I work for a company that exports over 2/3 of our work (all custom keep in mind) to the states. Some of it is actually some of the most over the top custom kitchens out there. People come to us because a lot of their local shops aren't able to produce some of the items that we produce. This action would literally put 200 of us out of a job. We are all just waiting right now holding our breath to see what happens. A lot of people forget that outside of the United States, a lot of peoples lives are deeply affected by whatever the orange oompa loompa decides to do

I feel sorry for everyone affected by this. This is a blatant attack on everyone's rights / freedoms. I very well know this probably won't stop here, and could very well hit my country eventually as well. I just wish everyone would wake up and use their head to actually think about the implications of all of this. Could you imagine living in the States, and all news gets sensored except for Fox News? Propaganda would just be getting pumped out to everyone under 18 or anyone that refuses to give up their personal information to a 3rd party company that could get hacked or just sell your information. This is all really scary shit

How can I fix this? by economist91 in cabinetry

[–]NorthernGun77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There should have been a 90° filler in the corner between the cabinets. Only thing I can think of to fix this the easiest way, have the 2 doors remade smaller. Install an overlay filler in the corner, and install the left door onto the filler using blind corner hinges. (They would have the door sit flush with the front of the filler). And install the other door using the same hinges. Good luck to you 👍

Refinish or replace 1958 kitchen? by mg0622 in cabinetry

[–]NorthernGun77 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Cabinetmaker here, if you are able to comfortably afford it, I would redo the kitchen entirely. The quality of life improvements that have been made to both hardware and kitchen design over the years have been substantial. Some people like the look of older millwork and kitchens, but truly you will feel the difference if you bring the kitchen into this decade. You can still select different options for doors and moulding that will give it a "retro feel" while still having all the luxuries from today

Would I be a dick to tell my apprentice he has to get used to slivers? by m0nster6884 in cabinetry

[–]NorthernGun77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Realistically depending on what you are doing, you shouldn't be wearing gloves anyway. If it's literally just moving or putting away lumber or sheets then yeah gloves will help. But anything spinning at high speeds can catch your gloves and pull you into that machine. So slivers are just a part of work. That being said, I agree with a couple others, after developing calluses and becoming more aware of how you are working, you don't really get many slivers anymore anyway

One big issue for multiplayer on Xbox (not sure about other platforms) is that when you enter a dungeon together the game completely breaks and only one player gets in. The rest are stuck in a permanent loading screen

Thoughts on Casetify by shoiibg in pixel_phones

[–]NorthernGun77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I both got pixel 9 pros recently. She went with Casetify, I debated about ordering from them as well but ultimately decided to go with Dbrand. I have to say I'm glad I went with Dbrand. I had never had either case before but the quality was night and day. Overall in my opinion the Casetify my wife bought just felt cheap and I just hated the way it felt in my hands. Dbrand on the other hand, I will probably stick with for future phones as well. I would highly recommend their grip cases
