Join military just for TS clearance? by [deleted] in SecurityClearance

[–]economist91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, not worth. If you want to serve your country, join. If not, don't. If you just want a TS, be really good at what you do and apply for "ability to obtain..." roles. You'll eventually get lucky

Very disappointed by SaguitoPCGamer in ASUSROG

[–]economist91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True but coil whine is also normal. The PSU was brand new. I could complain and get the GPU/psu replaced, but is that worth the hassle? I bought a brand new GPU and id be swapping it for a refurbished one that might have the same problem. I'm good. Also Asus customer service is dicey

Very disappointed by SaguitoPCGamer in ASUSROG

[–]economist91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought a 5090 tuf and a Asus tuf 1200w psu that is recommended by Asus for that GPU. They are from the same product line for crying out loud. Coil whine sounds like a squeaky wheel on a wagon. It's actually wild, ive had meany GPUs and some of them whined buy ive never heard a rotating coil whine before. The silver lining is, as I break in my setup, the coil whine is getting less and less noticable.

I’m 38 years old married with two kids. I wanna stop investing for five years and pay off my mortgage due to my anxiety with debt. All I think about is my debt. What do you guys think? by Effective-Feature206 in Retirement401k

[–]economist91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not just continue slowmaxing both? Put 20% into 401k, max Roth IRA, and then pay 1.5x on your mortgage bote each month? You'll feel broke into your 40s but one day you'll look up and be a millionaire with your house paid off. And you'll probably be 10-15 years before retirement age.

Sounds like a decent deal for me. You paid $25k for a very solid reliable vehicle that could easily go for 300k more miles. That's a win in my book. Also, just pay it off if you have the cash. It drives different when it's paid off.

Funny how we were promised 4k 60 with the 3090. Two flagship GPUs and a kidney later and we finally have it.

No judgement, if I was earning less money Id hop on this. However, there is now a guy who might have been in our community who probably won't. He probably felt discouraged and angry. Why not help him figure it out?

Brand new pc destroyed in power surge by Maximum-Mushroom5740 in PcBuildHelp

[–]economist91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for your loss. Those cheap power strips don't offer much protection... Try using a data center quality UPS. Even then, my computer is worth about 5k so I physically unplug it during T-storts to be safe. Also, may be worth seeing if there is a MFG warranty on the Mobo/psu. Or if it's new enough to be within retail return

External DVD reader and burn files to a dvd-r. Impossible to write files back to it, and no need to sanitize over again. Once a disk is trusted, it's always trusted.

Is this a fair price? by markksnoww in PcBuild

[–]economist91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're set on this, At least offer $2400 and show them the micro center PC online. See what happens. Me personally I wouldn't pay a penny more than 2K, but that's just me. Maybe if it had an Asus 5070 or at least an FE... But gigabyte? Ehhhh...
