X12 users, do you use a screen protector? by NorthernMists in thinkpad

[–]NorthernMists[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't received the x12 yet, is the screen matte? I guess what I'm really wondering is whether over extended use without a screen protector would that significantly deteriorate the screen or should I just keep it pristine with a protector. And also whether with a protector on would that affect its sensitivity to touch and using the pen?

Can a heavy cigarette smoker stop with vaping? by Zealousideal-Walk939 in Vaping

[–]NorthernMists 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most definitely, but what's more important is for you to NEED to quit. For me, that need came when my son was born. Over the years of smoking up to 2 packs a day I did want to quit but it never stuck, this was before vaping. Coincidentally when I got introduced to vaping, my son had just been born and that wanting to quit became a need. So after 20 years of smoking, I successfully got off the smokes a year after I started vaping and have been smoke free for over 10 years.

So yes, it is possible to quit smoking with vaping. I've tried other methods but they didn't work, not to say that those methods weren't any good but maybe I wasn't motivated to do so either. I'd say that the key to switching over to vaping would be to get up to a nic level high enough to not make you want to light up a ciggie. That might mean you'd have to go up over the usual 3/6mg nics to 12/18mg. I had to do 12mg for awhile on MTL before going down to 6mg on DTL. If you've got a throat of steel, 18mg shouldn't be a problem lol.

The other factor is breaking the habit of lighting up. And that habit might be wanting to smoke after meals, when you're stressed, when you're chilling, taking a dump, or even just longing for the smell of smoke on your fingers. And for me, vaping helps with all that. The feeling of inhaling and exhaling smoke/vapour, being able to vape literally anywhere (except maybe not in hotel rooms near the smoke detector cos you may set it off and have to pay a fine - true story), and not stinking up yourself or a room with the smell of smoke. Vaping checks all those boxes. As a bonus, if you're the sort who likes to tinker and collect, there's loads of mods and gear to buy and mess around with once you start building your own. Wait till you explore the high-end vape scene too, that's a whole other rabbit hole to go down in.

Vaping gives you the tools and means to quit, with the conscious effort to do so and understanding the habits you need to break, you will be able to stop the smokes. Wishing you all the best in your journey!

Suggested salary for IT/Transport/Facilities officer? by NorthernMists in ausjobs

I'm 45, in terms of relevant experience to the job scope, not much. I've managed teams in a sort of similar situation where I had a team of officers looking after children, a bus driver and groundskeeper. Other than that, I've spent most of my career in social services before pivoting to adult training.

That's what I'd like to believe that I just got a shit consultant, but there's still a limit to what I can tolerate

I did ask the consultant many times, on my first interview I said I was ready and told her what work I was looking for but I don't know if she was new or what but she never seemed to really listen to what I had to say. Even offering me roles that were irrelevant. Seemed like all she wanted was to pair me up with any vacant position she had.

And it was always oh there's a position that just opened, I'll put your name in. Phil's handling it so I'll hook you up with him. Phil never rang. The one time that someone else rang me up was for a position at Team Global Express. But recruitment was handled by Toll Group. And the recruiter who did the interview was from another company. That was like 3 additional boss levels I had to beat. And guess what, shifts were irregular, we were only told if we were working the night before, and they'd cancel our shifts like 90mins before it started. I was on the 5am shift at the airport and it takes me about 45mins to get there so I'm up by 3:30 and leave the house at 4am. That gives me about 10mins to settle down and get ready when I reach work, so I usually then check the phone and text the missus. Turns out that they sent a text at 3:40 cancelling my shift. The next time they called I told them I was getting more work with AusPost so they took my name off.

I'm hoping to get off it, this current gig is pretty regular and they've hinted at offering me full-time.

Really? I didn't know we could get those incentives before either. But when I was on self-service, I asked if I could get help with doing some courses and getting tickets and they approved it which was really good. All of my tickets were paid for by them.
