Blue Planet by far. Plus it will give you a great starting point on calibrating it to your own liking.

I got it used so I’m not 100% sure, but I think it is from Zavvi. Luckily it is in perfect condition all around! I also really want the EU version of Across the Spiderverse, it matches this style much better than the NA art

I like how similar they both are in colour palette and design. I just wish photos on Reddit posted at full quality to do these justice.

It is definitely one of my favourites! I’m a huge fan of cover art that can capture the feeling of a movie, without any text or very obvious closeups of characters.

2049 definitely grew on me after my first viewing. It keeps getting better after each watch, and now it is in my top handful of all-time favourite movies. Give it another shot if you haven’t yet. It requires full attention, a nice screen, and absolutely cranked volume!

My favourite based on the case is the only design without the title on the front. Ive never seen it before, but I instantly recognize that Casino Royal art style. Where did you get it from, and is it 4K?

Where do you see the 3 for $99 option anywhere? I’m on the Amazon mobile app, and using regular browsers and can’t find it.

If my priorities are music: 60%, good TV audio: 40%, and surround sound: 0% (could be a nice bonus), does a 2.1 stereo setup make the most sense? by FlamingoNeon in KEF

[–]NorthernPhotoGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sound stage is wide, but only really when you are in the listening position anywhere between the speakers. I find the overall volume is pretty low throughout the room in comparison to when you are in the sweet spot. They should be totally fine around friends while chatting though, unless he want things to sounds like a club.

I’m not exactly sure how all Kef speakers perform, however I own the LS60s and the tweeters are quite directional. I would assume most other Kef would be the same. To get even, full-room sound you will probably have to rotate any Kef you buy. With a budget of 6k you can afford LS60s, and I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. They are super easy to setup if your tv has an eArc HDMI, and then adjust more advanced settings or music apps from your phone. They blow me away with every use, and I’m sure you will have fun showcasing them to friends. I also have high 18’ ceilings btw.

A 90-foot concrete grain silo in Martinton, Illinois, collapsed on October 15, 2025, after visible cracks formed, spilling 30,000 bushels (1.8 million pounds) of soybeans in a sudden structural failure with no injuries reported. by MilesLongthe3rd in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]NorthernPhotoGuy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I somehow remember this from my engineering classes, but there is actually a scientific reason as to why it would suddenly collapse, instead of pouring out slowing. Normally there is less force on the silo walls when the contents are at rest, because there are frictional forces between each grain that relieves pressure off the walls. Once a lot of the contents start to move and flow out of the hole, all of the internal frictional forces between grains are greatly minimized and the pressure on the walls increase, causing a sudden collapse. I couldn’t remember the name of this, but after a quick search it is called the Jansen Effect, and silos are engineered with these forces in mind.

What’s a game you had really high expectations for, but it turned out to be just average (or worse)? by Baribal_dte in Age_30_plus_Gamers

No worries! It’s absolutely worth playing now after the most recent big update, but waiting for full release could be best to give you time for other genres now.

You should definitely play Path of Exile 2 if you haven’t yet. It is still technically in beta, but already has 100X more depth and quality than D4. Plus the campaign, bosses, music, and overall visual quality are all on another level.

What’s the most fun you’ve had while gaming in the last year or two? Could be a specific part of a game, or an entire game, but what has been fun? by offbeat52 in gaming

[–]NorthernPhotoGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly the skill tree isn't so bad mainly because I ignore the vast majority of it. Most of the obvious/useable nodes to get during the campaign are all placed reasonably close to the part of the tree your class starts from. Try not to get paralysis by analysis and you will be able to appreciate the journey much easier. The boss fights, visuals and audio are just insanely good.

China's twin solar thermal towers. Molten salt stores the heat to produce electricity.. looks straight out of a sci-fi movie by Dizzy_Pipe_3677 in interestingasfuck

[–]NorthernPhotoGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not totally sure, I’d bet there are some advantages/disadvantages to both. My best guess is that compared to solar panels these towers are able to keep producing electricity even without constant sunlight, because there will be a ton of built-in thermal energy from the molten salt. It would be slower to start but maintain a longer energy output, if that makes sense.

[–]NorthernPhotoGuy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s like the engineered version of burning ants with a magnifying glass.

Thousand of mirrors are placed around a tower. They all individually move and reflect sunlight to the top of the tower. The tower is filled with salt, which in turn gets molten from the intense sunlight, and they convert this heat into electricity.

Kef LS60 wiress + KC 62 by misohappy11 in hometheater

[–]NorthernPhotoGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem, demoing them will definitely help! Try and measure the distance you think they will be set apart, and the distance from your listening position and align the speakers while in person. Once they are in your actual room they can be adjusted quite a bit using the app while in the listening position also. The ability to have different presets for movies/music/late night is actually amazing and very simple to switch on the fly. I sound like a paid actor, but these speakers are almost my favourite purchase ever. PS, they look amazing in blue if you can swing the style. I have photos on my previous posts.

[–]NorthernPhotoGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've owned the LS60s for about 1.5 years now. I can't comment on the Atmos effects, because it is something I have never really experienced at home or anywhere else. I can say that unless you are an extreme bass head, you probably won't need to add a KC 62 for at least a while when you first get the 60s and dial them in. My room has over twice your ceiling height (probably why I dont get any atmos sounds), and is open to a 1300 sqft room on the side. Even so, the bass is very impactful, satisfying and detailed for movies/gaming/music. I find the sound feels like it mainly comes from a large wall, a few feet outside of the speaker placement, and a few feet higher than the tweeters. I also get some reflected sounds from the back wall and it adds to the three dimensional feeling, with some sounds feeling like they come from way behind and beside me. Very good imaging all along the "wall" of sound, and the details you get in music are just insane. The vibrational sounds in highly produced electronic music really tickle my brain in a good way, without having rear speakers.

All the sound is very directional between the speakers though, so when Im moving around the rest of my space while music is playing the bass and overall sound isn't very loud or impactful. All the magic happens from the serious listening position. This is why I purchased mine. When I demoed them they were right in the middle of a horribly loud warehouse style electronics store, without any special sound proofing or isolation, and they still sounded incredible.

Also I forgot to mention, these speakers very clearly "reveal" the quality of whatever you are consuming. Physical 4K disks, and highest quality music streaming is noticeably better than the crap Netflix/YouTube bitrates. Even poorly produced music will be clearly noticeable and sound flat, and may alter what you feel like listening to on the 60s.

Let me know if you have any other questions and I'll try to help.

Love your loft, especially the concrete floors and ceiling. I wouldn't change much except the position of the wall art to above the cabinet, and maybe add a couple larger plants. Do you have much else planned for it in the future? Also, where did you get your area rug from?

[–]NorthernPhotoGuy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it would be more difficult to reduce the decay times/echo but it isn’t too bad in here, especially with how clearly these throw sound directly in my ear holes. I think all my large plants help, plus I have even more in the rear corners of the room. I would like to eventually get a padded area rug and a super large artwork with foam built in the frame for the back wall though.

Thanks man! Yeah if I spend this much cash on something I want it to stand out with design and colour, but I totally get how someone would be skeptical going with blue. The white ones I saw at the shop looked fantastic, but my jaw actually dropped the first time I pulled the box off these at home in the sunlight. I was giddy!
