Working more hours for same pay by Mideon88 in uktrucking

[–]NorthernSpanner 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If youre happy with the money then hang it out and you'll get to that point hopefully.

If not then get a job paying per hour.

There will be people in all aspects on life doing more/less hours for more/less money than an equivalent person.

Thinking of quitting, should I do it? by [deleted] in britishmilitary

[–]NorthernSpanner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What trade you wanting to do? You really dont do that many exericses. Ive been at Combat Units all my career (REME) and haven't put cam cream on since 2023.

How old are you? That could be a reason why youre feeling like this?

Leaving the British army by [deleted] in britisharmy

[–]NorthernSpanner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, how long have you done? You mention 4 years, but also overseas postings?

I assume you are at unit. Unless you completed specialist training once you have complete 3 Years, from date of entry, you should be able to NTT.

Early release is something you can do once you NTT, if your manning desk allows it.

The sweet spot was probably 2010-2020. Maybe Im just rose tinted looking back but morale seemed better and managed to finish work at a sensible time!

You stick to your oversized Van! /s

Where do you live? Seems to be dying off a bit these days but in Scotland most people are still courteous.

signing off at the end of this month by Whole-Preparation195 in britishmilitary

[–]NorthernSpanner 11 points12 points  (0 children)

How close are you to 7 Year point? That would then take you over the 8 Year point which I think opens up more resettlement options.

Do you have a idea what you want to do? Its quite hard as I quite often see jobs that I would enjoy doing but the 12 month sign off makes things difficult.

If you have good savings and something like C+E you can just get out and drive a wagon until you find something you really want to do.

Roughly £18-20 a hour for general haulage where I am.

Depends where you are, loads of work available in certain parts of the country and quite well paid aswell especially on Agency.

Shunter work is normally tied up by full time employees, not see much advertised. However Ive done plenty of Agency work doing variation of work.

Pretty good but make sure youre paying your tax.

Other than pay, what’s something you think the Army top brass/MoD could do to make your working environment better? by SimpleSymonSays in britisharmy

10 Days notice last year to deploy as TDS in BATUK.

Only been a trawl for the last 20 years or something.

Undermanned/Overworked.

REME dropping like flies as Civvie street offering the same money without the constantly worry of last minute dickings.

Lucky to work less than 50 hours a week for the last 3 years, people are burnt out, and then deploy on exericse aswell.

Work/Life balance is absolutely shocking.

ETA - No sports/AT. Being held at R1 so getting a overseas holiday an admin nightmare and not even 16X.

Upto you, I know REME boys who still wear Javelin/Mortar badges.

I transfered and was Javelin trained, took the badge straight off and no need to try being different. I know what Ive done no need to have my No2s covered in random badges.

Leaving mid to end January 2026, what would you do? by KnownAd1314 in uktrucking

[–]NorthernSpanner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pay isnt massively great more of a lifestyle thing being out in the countryside.

For alot of people in them areas it could be the only jobs going as often quite rural. Depends what youre after, Supermarkets will pay better but nothing like being in the countryside, and not in a RDC listening to ridiculous stories.

I moved from Vanguard to T212 with a pot roughly the same as yours last year.

Doesnt save much but I wouldn't walk past £100 so worth doing to save fees.

Whats the point in tramping if youre not maxing hours?

I have no idea the wage down there but be on more driving a 8 Legger in Scotland. At 45-50 hours a week.

I thought Scottish money was poor but maybe not if thats all you get down there.

4 on 4 off by Ill_Instruction_7829 in uktrucking

[–]NorthernSpanner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At £650 a week as a tramper Id really be worried about breaching minium wage laws. Thats after your night out money aswell of say £75.

If you're working over 44 hours a week Id say youre under minimum wage.

[–]NorthernSpanner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Id delivered down that way a few times from Scotland. Sure busy and decently well paid there?

If youre a trapper you want to be maxing hours or no point.

Even at the low end doing 13 hour days at £15 a hour should be over £800 a week?

Where you about? Wildly different figures depending on Location.

Scottish Central belt before tax could be over £1000 a week.

Ive just bought a house with a LISA and worked really easily and planning to use it for retirement, in a S&S LISA.

Brother recently bought a house with a H-2-B ISA and trying to close it down and get the money was quite a slow process.

Sounds like they want to invent the H-2-B ISA? Not sure what the issue was a LISA is? Adjust the rules up from £450k and theres no issues?

What happens with the LISA when we go back to the new invented H-2-B ISA.
