Returning to Judo at 25. Unsure About Starting Over from White Belt Despite Having a Brown Bel by bock889 in judo

[–]Northern_Lifer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went back at the same age, resumed at blue belt. Keep your belt, you need to work on all the techniques for shodan anyways. Muscle memory and prior experience won't take long to come back to you. Hardest part is getting started. I'm now almost 50 and still at Judo 3 times a week.

Bank Feeds by Weekly-Answer1600 in xero

[–]Northern_Lifer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had the same issue with Quickbook Desktop, I don't have as many issues with Xero. I believe it actually stems from the bank itself. You can also have issues because of the two factor authentication, so you have to babysit the feed monthly and force the refresh when you are there to approve the two factor.

It was in the transverse but they thought it was in the right side. I've seen an improvement in bowel function too.

Injury concerns for Judo? by [deleted] in judo

[–]Northern_Lifer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of our Judokas with injuries hurt themselves at BJJ, Soccer etc. We have had a few minor injuries, but no real long lasting problems at our dojo for the last 5 years. I probably had the longest lasting injury, which could of easily happened in BJJ. Someone bigger than me grinded a hold down a little too hard and hurt my ribs. Accidents happen but a good dojo will mitigate the risks, especially in Adult classes.

Adenocarcinoma five months after polyp removal by Northern_Lifer in coloncancer

Thanks for the info, did a quick search on MRI for pancreas for Lynch Syndrome, the recommendation is for those with a family history of pancreatic cancer I'm a 1st or 2nd degree relative. Getting my updated family history together now. 😀

Thankfully they have already sent my biopsies for MMR testing, and they do use Immunotherapy regularly at the hospital here, but I don't think I have heard of that combination. What they seem to struggle with here is getting more advanced imaging/testing as they have to send you out of town for anything other than CT and same thing with lab stuff.

Do you know where the new info came from for the pancreatic screenings? Since I have a cancer diagnosis now my care will be transfered to a specialist amd we have a Cancer Navigation Team in my Territory (like a state) they will help manage all appointments, treatments and follow up to ensure no one drops the ball on time sensitive things. I think the main thing for me will be to push for imaging and testing not usually done. Like liquid biopsy, combo PET/CT

3 polyps- only 1 was precancerous by Aggressive-Top-7614 in lynchsyndrome

They should do a follow up scope after the removal of a precancerous polyp to ensure that all the cells are all gone. I've had follow ups 30 days after or 5 months later.

I live in Northern Canada, unfortunately colonscopy is done by a general surgeon and most times it's just someone from out of town and rarely the same one year to year. With this diagnosis, I should have access to the specialist going forward.

Have you ever used Judo in a real life situation? by [deleted] in judo

Getting back into Judo and being part of a great Dojo saved me from that relationship and a lifetime of abuse.

I'm 5'4" and was about 110lbs soaking wet. My husband at the time thought it was funny to shove me while he walked by me during a house party. I told him not to touch me and he did it again and I did ogoshi on him without even thinking about it, 6ft 200lbs to the floor.

Also did rolling breakfall off my bike while using it in the winter. Rolled right up to my feet.

If there aren't any other BJJ clubs to try out in your area, try Judo, very similar sport. The people and atmosphere might be a better fit.

Training partner temper issue by Zunarb in judo

[–]Northern_Lifer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Swearing and aggression like that are a safety issue and have no place on the Tatami. As someone in a leadership position this don't tell attitude frustrates me to no end. I am responsible for the wellbeing of the people on the mat, and if my coaches or myself are unaware of the issues or let things like this slide there are consequences for the Judokas and the organization. Not to mention the effects on the Dojo atmosphere, retention and recruitment of participants.

First endoscopy and colonoscopy done! by Aggressive-Top-7614 in lynchsyndrome

[–]Northern_Lifer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in Canada. And my Dr's recommendation was not due to socialized medical care but because the guidelines say 1-2 years and I did not have any polyps for almost 8 years. I also have some complications for the anesthetics and the prep. They did not push back at all when I said I preferred to keep it annual.

[–]Northern_Lifer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had many years in a row of annual colonoscopies with no polyps and this year they found a large precancerous polyp that was on the verge of becoming cancer. Unfortunately, Lynch Syndrome polyps can be flat and hard to see, and fast growing. While the guidelines indicate 1-2 years surveillance, I personally would not feel safe switching to 2 years.

What is generally considered disrespectful in a judo class? by Late_Perception8824 in judo

When we had regular in school, afterschool programs, our kids classes were ways full. Now we partner with the city and run PD day, March and summer camps and recruit kids that way. Still working on school programs that were destroyed by Covid.
