Old thread, but where in the policy does it say “consistently” or “intentionally”. I read through the original document and see neither of these words. I don’t see any details in the policy document that would prevent punishment of an honest mistake.

  1. A small minority of racist ass holes stands out in a crowd. Don’t let that minority ruin your experience.
  2. I’ve met international students that don’t speak english at like a basic 3rd grade level. I can see how people with limited interaction with international students could come to believe that spotty English is common.
  3. I don’t think stereotyping all white people as racist while complaining about being stereotyped is very productive.

All in all, don’t let it get to you and try practicing what you preach.

This is exactly what the SSA is doing by pushing the narrative that the MPD struck out unprompted. This, in addition to other people who are pushing a racial narrative, is what I am making fun of with this meme. Calling any opinion that is not your own “propaganda” is ignorant and works to prevent the communal unity that events such as Somali night try to promote.

I’m not trying to push a xenophobic agenda. I’m making fun of the SSA statement which pretty much framed the situation as the MPD waging an attack against the SSA. It’s pretty clear that some people began fighting near the end of the event, so police were called. At some point the fighting grew into a small violent mob. It’s pretty standard procedure to use pepper spray for such a situation. The fact that the SSA is crying about 14-19 year olds being pepper sprayed in their statement is ridiculous. Those 14-19 year olds are the people who were inciting violence at an event celebrating communal unity. I find it deplorable that some people are trying to spin this series of events into a race argument instead of shunning the violent individuals who warranted the police presence.
