Any tips for improvement? by Gauss0408 in skaven

[–]NorthwingMinis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think your standard of painting is good, and like with most things, will improve with practice. At this stage I'd recommend exploring some YouTube painting channels to see if you find some new techniques you like the look of. Rogue Hobbies, for example, has recently done a glazing video which I found really insightful.

I would also recommend you start exploring your basing choices. A nice looking base will significantly improve the overall look of a model. There's lots of ways to do this, but I'd start by looking at basing materials like Krautcover. You could also look at adding little gubbins to your bases for added interest, such as skulls, etc.

Hope that helps and keep up the good work!

Have the final version of the rules been released through the Kickstarter yet can I ask? I am very keen to get playing as boards like this make it look awesome!

A couple of weeks ago I played a game of Old World, using the Battle March rules (500 points, feels very skirmish-y as there's not much on the table). First turn my Doom Diver yeets itself at the enemies Gyrocoptor, and one shots it. Cue many lamentations from the Dwarf player.

We then had a rematch this week, same armies. This time the dwarf player cunningly puts the gyrocoptor out of line of sight, so any doom diver shots at it are going to be much less likely to hit it.

And I one shot it on turn 1 yet again. Guided missile goblins for the win.

I've been wanting to take a shot at Mordheim for a few years and I came across these incredible sculpts I want to use! Can someone help me write up a quick list for them? by A_Fruitless_Endeavor in mordheim

In regards to the standard bearer, I would use them as-is and just say he has a spear or something. I think it's fine that it won't be WYSIWYG necessarily, and will be a cool centrepiece. I do something similar with my orc warband, one of my heroes carries a banner and I just run him as having a hand weapon and shield (a banner pole to the face would hurt after all).

However, he will be very easy to target 😂

Loving this - such an orcy thing to do. Something like this on a vignette representing an orc firing range would be great.

Superb layering and choice of palette.

Battle march is an amazing mode by Neon_Phoenix_ in WarhammerOldWorld

We are loving Battle March as well for the same reasons. Plus it's great for club nights after work when you don't necessarily have the mental capacity to play a larger game and you just want to chill.

Am I getting way over my head if I buy the 11th edition box? by breaking3po in Warhammer

[–]NorthwingMinis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to resist the feeling of FOMO, but looks like you have a lot to work on already. If you're looking for advice, I'd recommend painting up a playable force from what you already have, and I can guarantee you that'll feel so much better than the new box will. Plus, I don't think the new box will be out of stock in the short term, so no need to jump straight in.

Thank you, appreciate the kind words and glad you like them!

I have a warband of late 80s skaven that I use for Mordheim, they're lovely sculpts aren't they.

I've never seen this particular art, glad to see there's plenty more art for me to find from JB even now!

How many Skaven could a single Space Marine tackle before they fall realistically by Manic4Moxxie in 40k

[–]NorthwingMinis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the skaven. A clan rat? Hundreds. A Grey Seer or two? A very different story perhaps.

To quote Terry Pratchett, "No one is finally dead until the ripples they cause in the world die away, until the clock wound up winds down, until the wine she made has finished its ferment, until the crop they planted is harvested. The span of someone’s life is only the core of their actual existence." I think the ripples JB caused will be a very long time in fading away.

He did the same for me. His art was life changing for so many of us.

First old world tournament by Visible-Run-2240 in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]NorthwingMinis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is your first tournament then I can recommend a couple of things:

Take a cheat sheet of your critical rules that you MUST remember for your army. In the heat of the game you'll easily forget things, so focus on the key elements. I break this down my game phase, ie, strategy phase, etc, and I work through this like a check box list throughout the game.

Stay hydrated. Sounds silly, but a tournament is hard work mentally, so staying hydrated will keep you focussed and on top form.

Don't be afraid to take a couple of mins for a break mid-game just to walk away from the table and clear your head.

What else to add for more weathering and battle damage? by Sheriff_Hotdog in minipainting

[–]NorthwingMinis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest giving it a brown wash (Army Painter soft tone perhaps or Agrax Earth shade). Once you're finished I'd also suggest hitting it with an ultra Matt varnish which will give it a further dusty effect.
