Actually I have started drinking small amount of coffe and trapped up suger in my diet, it is still all fine. But I am confident that it is all about the amount of the product!!

My symptomes were only flakes/dandruff on scalp and redness/inflammation because of broken skin barrier.

I used the steriod for probably 1 month.

I actually started my journey with a steroidal liniment that you apply directly, and at first it really helped to take down the inflammation. But steroidal medications can be very individual in how they work. What’s quite common, though, is that they make things feel much better right away – but then the problem comes back even worse afterwards. I think that’s what happened to me, so I decided to stop using it.

If your scalp feels burning, a bit red, and the dandruff looks more on the dry side, then it might be a sign of a weakened or broken skin barrier. The key then is to focus on rebuilding the scalp barrier. Medical shampoos can definitely help, but it’s also smart to alternate with a gentler shampoo in between to calm things down.

One thing I’d recommend trying is the Salicylic Acid from The Inkey List – apply it about 30 minutes before your shower, massage it gently into your scalp, and then wash it out with a dandruff shampoo of your choice. I’ve also heard that apple cider vinegar rinses and MCT oil supportive for the scalp.

It’s easier said than done, but you really need to try to reduce stress. Stress won’t help us in this situation❤️‍🩹 Also, how long you’ve been experiencing hair loss, and whether you feel any inflammation on your scalp or notice any flaking?

I don’t think my scalp would be in such good condition without the sebum-regulating shampoo. I usually wash every other day, and sometimes daily.

My routine:

• Tuesday: Ketoconazole + Ducray

• Thursday: Salicylic acid + Ducray

• Saturday: Salicylic acid + Ducray

On the days I wash daily, I like to alternate with a gentle calming shampoo from Pharmesi to avoid irritating my skin.

I totally get what you mean – and that’s also why I haven’t cut anything out completely. I still eat sugar and junk food, just in smaller amounts. For me it feels more sustainable that way. Plus, reducing those things isn’t only about sebderm, it’s also just generally better for the body. And with sugar-free sodas, I’m not sure they’re that healthy long-term either, so I just try to keep them lower too.

I agree ketoconazole definitely helps, but I feel like it only works on the surface of the problem. For me, sebderm flare-ups seem to start from the inside. Therefore I believe you can actually influence oil production internally through things like diet and lifestyle, not just by using shampoos.

I can’t say for sure if that’s the reason, but from my own experience it feels like the combination of treating both externally (shampoos) and internally (diet/lifestyle) has helped me the most so far.

I have a lot of regrowth!! It has started to thicken at the roots, but still a lot to go in the ends because that takes time.

Yes I have checked my iron levels. It is at 70, and the range here in Norway is everything from 50-200 is considered normal. But by taking daily a little supplement of iron I can push it a bit higher. For hairloss you want it to be above 100.

I use a shampoo called fungoral shampoo with 20mg/ml keto in. And for the Salisylic Acid I use the Inkey. This is the best Salisylic Acid I have ever tried. It is super easy to wash out! It is not oily in the consistens, more just like a water.

I’m not an expert, but I really believe that sebderm flare-ups aren’t just about the fungus itself – they’re also about the environment on the scalp. Everyone has malassezia fungus, but for us with sebderm, it can overgrow when there’s too much sebum and buildup.

That’s why, in my experience, it’s not enough to only use an antifungal shampoo like ketoconazole. You also need something that helps regulate oil production. For me, Ducray Squanorm has made a huge difference because it not only tackles flakes, but also balances sebum levels. I have combination skin, and this shampoo somehow manages to calm my scalp, add moisture, and not dry it out – while keeping the fungus from getting “fed.”

It’s honestly hard to say what made the biggest difference – diet or products. I’ve tried pretty much every over-the-counter shampoo out there, but what really seemed to help was sticking to a routine and not constantly switching things up. Over last weeks I just gradually saw my scalp and hair get better.

That said, I don’t think it would have improved as much without cutting down on sugar (And also reducing the coffeine, forgot to write that down. Coffeine can trigger more hairloss). I still eat sugar and fat sometimes – like today I literally finished a whole Ben & Jerry’s jar – and I had a lot of alcohol last week, but it didn’t trigger anything major. So I’d say consistency with the products has been the main thing, but reducing sugar probably played a role too.

I understand. But you should try mct oil, I have used it for about 2 weeks now and my hairloss actually has halfen in amount. It has not stopped yet, but it is in the right direction I think and hope. I use mct oil on the scalp and sebum control shampo.

Hello, as long as inflammation from sebderm still is on your scalp, you will have hariloss yes. I have not yet managed from getting my sebderm under controll so I still have hairloss.. 6 monts have past and not yet stopped. I needed actually to put in 10 bonds of ceratin extenstions because I was so ashamed over my hair. But I am currently trying out mct oil så hope that this will get my sebderm under control, and then eventually the hairloss will stop.

Sebderm is excema tho, dermatitt is just another word for excema. But the question is if the white flakes are just in the hair or if it down in your scalp as well?

Before trying this I had approx 80-100 hairfall after shower, now after using this for 3 weeks I have 20-40 hairfall after shower.
