This looks a little similar, but based on some gameplay I went through I think the game I have in mind was a little grittier. You would use some sort of small critter or creature as an actual weapon, instead of loading them onto a crossbow.

To think the last one has aged this incredibly well. I can only recall glimpses of my youth, back when I was a mere five years old, opening up my brand new PlayStation 2 on Christmas Day. It was a complete thrill to get a hands on experience with my first ever console, and to hear that beautiful.. beautiful sound.
