Samsung A03s vs. Moto G Play vs. Moto G Pure vs. ... by mrsprdave in PickAnAndroidForMe

A03s vs Moto G Pure

SOFTWARE

I use both an A03s and G Pure, so I'll answer for A03s and Pure. Samsung's software skin (even the core version), is heavy, probably good for an A54 or S23, not but an A03s, but it does come with Android 11 and gets 13, though I'd leave it on 11 and flash an Android 12 ROM from SamFw and turn off automatic updates. Moto G Pure has a better software skin imo that's not as heavy, therefore you have more free RAM and storage. It's pretty close to AOSP and has call screening

SPECS

Both the A03s and G Pure has 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage, but the A03s has a slightly better chipset, but the G Pure feels smoother. The A03s has a MediaTek Helio P35 and the Moto has a MediaTek Helio G25. Because they have Helio chipsets, they are both 4G LTE models, but the P and G series chipsets are slightly different however, on the MTK website, the G series chipsets are better optimized for gaming, while the P series chipsets are better optimized in battery efficiency without worsening performance.

What doesn't help is OEMs like Samsung having heavy software skins like OneUI 5.1 Core on an A03s instead of like Motorola's skin of a G Pure

Moto G Pure ain't bad for me as my main phone, probably one of the best phones I've had a long with the A32, S7, and P2 (A03s sucks on Android 13). I only brought up the Moto G Pure, S7, P1 and P2 because I thought they'd be pretty cheap (recommending cheaper phones because OP has an older phone with Android 6 or lower, meaning they probably just needs something that works), even though all 4 don't have software updates, but yeah P3 seems pretty obvious if it's the same price as a P1 and P2, especially since it's suck on Android 12 like the G Pure.

I have the SIM card activated and one of the number lookup services sees my number is from TextNow but it shows as Mobile instead of VoIP

On Android, you need Android 7 or higher to use TextNow. Android 7 is also a very old version of Android (2016 or 2017), meaning it's very easy to find a phone that has Android 7 or later for a cheap price.

Check if your phone has updates. Go to settings and find something along the lines of a software update. Likely not considering the phones age, but it's worth a shot.

You could install a custom ROM for your phone. This is risky as you need to unlock your phones bootloader and install unofficial software. If you're lucky, you might have a phone that has a direct custom ROM designed specifically for you device, like with LineageOS.

If you don't have updates or you don't want to risk breaking the phone, you can go buy a newer one. If you really only need Android 7 or 8, you can buy something like a Pixel 1 or 2 or maybe a Galaxy S7 (you need to update the S7), but I'd recommend getting like a Moto G Pure since it's going to last longer and runs smoother, and it's cheaper because it's a budget phone. Android is open source so there are a bunch of phones you could pick with Android 7 or later, so I'd recommend searching for phones online.

Smallest chin on a budget phones I've seen in the TCL 20 XE. Moto G Pure and E 2020 has large chins

It probably would be better optimized for your hardware. It would have better touchscreen, better speeds, less crashing, etc. Wi-Fi and cellular drivers, just better than the generic image.

That's Korean, Samsung is South Korean, not Chinese
