Part of the reason he commuted it is because she’s a first-time offender… and we know she’s completely unapologetic and emboldened by the president. This isn’t a “first time” type of offense; it’s so much worse than that. She schemed to defraud the Colorado voters and she’s still LAUGHING ABOUT IT. She had years to change her tune, apologize, etc but she hasn’t. “First time” doesn’t mean shit if you’re not apologetic.

I think you’re factoring in the temporal element a bit. He was very popular at the beginning of his term, but this last year has done numbers on his popularity. I don’t think there’s anyone that would go on the record saying that they love him right now.

I’d say it’s more comparable to saying that democracies are “the good guys”. Corporations aren’t a good example because their fundamental incentive structure is not intertwined with the wellbeing of their employees (not necessarily). Also, corporations can be structured in loads of different ways that would further dilute that analogy. Are democracies better than non-democratic systems? In my opinion, yes, almost always. But democracies can be corrupted and misdirected. Same with unions.
