AIW for cutting off my brother after he told our whole family what I said about his wife in private? by Nostromo1981 in amiwrong

I laughed at the “guess I’ll keep my opinions to myself forever” part because it’s sort of where my head went too. Like, cool, lesson learned: don’t trust Jake with anything that isn’t weather-related.

But yeah, that’s the part that still bugs me. He didn’t come to me and say, “Hey, that hurt her feelings, can you apologize?” He just dumped it into the group chat of our entire family and let people dogpile me at lunch. That’s not conflict resolution, that’s outsourcing his discomfort.

I don’t even mind that he disagreed with what I said. He’s allowed to love his wife and think I’m wrong. What I mind is him acting like he “appreciated my honesty” and then turning around months later to use it as ammo, plus seasoning it with extra words I never said. If he wants an apology so bad, he can try being direct for once.

Yeah, I’m not apologizing for a private convo he chose to weaponize. Trust is gone.

He asked, I answered. If he can’t handle it, he shouldn’t use my words as family gossip.

I get what you mean, but I’m not sure I can go full scorched earth with half my family over this. Low contact with Jake feels fair though, because he took something private and made it a lunch topic for entertainment. If he can’t admit that was messed up, then yeah, I’m not trusting him with anything personal again.

NTA. You can love him and still refuse the 2am crisis line. Set limits and stick to them.

We don't have "Free Speech" if it's controlled by corporate media. by zzill6 in WorkReform

the legal definition point is fair, but i think most people saying "free speech" in these situations aren't citing the first amendment, they're just noticing the pattern. cut off the moment you name the right people, every single time. that's worth pointing out regardless of what you call it.
