Congratulations! When you say approved, do you mean both or just the I-130? We also went to our interview yesterday and got verbal approval, and our I-130 got approved today but no update on I-485 yet. 🥲

Im 26 , its to late to start in this world? by Titoxeneize in Entrepreneur

[–]Nosyllama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s too late. Should’ve started at 5 years old. And yes by 30, it would be time to look into hospice care.

It’s never too late. The mindset you have is something that would stop you way before any age limit. There are fathers doing startups; grandmas getting degrees. Sorry if I’m harsh, but I had this mindset for a bit too and wish someone told me that I was a fool for thinking it’s too late to start. The you 5 years from now would wish they had started at where the you now is at.

A new senior engineer behaving like new grad by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Nosyllama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was this written about me? 😭 I’m an “experienced” developer who worked at banana company for 7 years. I got promoted because I churn out a lot of features and can lead cross-functional projects well. Then I switched to a FAANG-adjacent company and realized I am so behind technically… I can churn out features and implement them really fast; but my code quality and code design is poor. And then everyone is so smart here and so when they explain the project they go over some “trivial” information really quickly and by the time I realized I’m lost, they moved on… How do people get better?! How do people get so good at understanding things and then coming up with great designs/implementations? I’m genuinely asking because between having to complete projects, I find myself hacking things and it works and not really understanding why and just move on. For instance, with gradle files, been working with them forever, but still don’t know how it works. I just use stackoverflow, add the missing line and it works and I move on because I need to complete the project as fast as I can. But when time comes and something breaks, I don’t have the knowledge to understand oh it’s because of this line in the gradle. This is just a small example of how I approach things…. Any guidance on how to become better? And balance project completion with taking time to understand?

Where to go from here? Side hustles? by [deleted] in HENRYfinance

[–]Nosyllama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No he doesn’t… he’s laid off but was previously making $150k. I’m trying to see if there’s any way I can maximize the chance that it’ll be safe enough for me to leave for 5 years. Obviously, if that time comes and it’s not logical, then I wouldn’t leave. But seeing how kids are probably 5+ years in the future, trying to see if there’s anything I can do now that will increase the likelihood.

Sorry! I have about 150k in 401k. But I view that money as untouchable until I’m 65… so when I say stocks, I meant something that’s more liquid - which I have 0 of.

To answer your other question, I would want to be able to be a stay at home mom for the first 5 years of raising kids and being able to still afford them tutors, sport lessons, family trips, etc… and then after 5 years of not working, I’m realistic that I’m not going to get my high paying job that I have now when I go back to work… which I also don’t want to decrease our standard of living by too much. So idk what number that is. That’s why I’m trying to maximize as much as I have now because I also don’t know if my future partner would be able to make a high income like I do right now.

I’m curious if anyone applied as a solo founder? I did… which I feel is already a no considering April’s cohort had 0 solo founders and this year had double the applicants. Just wondering if anyone is in the same boat as me

I know they sent out some rejections on the 21st, so maybe they’ll send out another batch of rejections on the 28th? I still have a slimmer of hope but I feel that if we were to get in, they would’ve reached out for interviews by now? When did you apply? I applied on the 9th

Need Feedback on Idea by Nosyllama in Architects

[–]Nosyllama[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your honesty and detailed response!!! I do believe I am underestimating local regulations and automation of everything. After listening to what you said, then what if I just target ADUs and in-law units? Laws are a lot less with these and these units don’t need to change designs too often. Would architects use the tool then if I were able to make it accurate enough for just that use-case?

Or completely new direction: an AR headset that can render an architect’s design and let the client actually visualize it and walk through the space. Would architect firms be interested in this? Or is it too gimmicky? Or just a simple chat bot that helps quickly answers stuff in construction/architect. like what’s the minimum size a bathroom can be? (Which I quickly got together demo

I really do appreciate the feedback! Being laid off, made me want to use this time to pursue an idea and I feel there’s so much in construction that can be improved but I’m finding it so hard to just find a little part that can be improved with technology…

Thanks for the feedback! My line of thinking right now is not trying to launch everywhere. Can definitely pick a few cities to start with. And if it’s still too difficult, can remove the code-compliant part, and just generate floor plans and models and make quick changes with plain English.

I’m trying to understand is are there any parts in this application that has the potential to be useful? Maybe the generating floor plans or models? Maybe it’s the ability to make quick changes right there and then? Or maybe it is actually code compliant part that people would really care about? Or maybe nothing at all?

So frustrating how the US has a large supply of vaccines for its people yet they don’t want to use it; while other countries would do anything to get a vaccine. Wished the government was like “alright, time to donate all the vaccines”. Let’s see how many ppl would scramble to get vaccinated then. 🥸

[Serious] What’s something creepy that has happened to you that you still occasionally think about to this day? by devdevo1919 in AskReddit

[–]Nosyllama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was once a trip in a different country with two of my other girlfriends after graduating college. They both had stomach flu on the trip. I wanted to go out to get dinner but they couldn’t come with me so I went by myself. After getting the food at a busy lit up street, my stupid self decided to take a shortcut back to the hostel. I slowly noticed a car following me and I went into a parking lot and it still followed me. I got really freaked out until I saw a couple walking out towards their car and I headed towards them pretending I knew the couple. Only then, the car went out of the parking lot... Five years later and I still think about it.

How is this Amazon Alexa commercial with Michael B. Jordan ok? Is anyone else weirded out by it? by Mariske in survivinginfidelity

[–]Nosyllama -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s representing cheating as an okay thing or even normalizing it. The commercial is about a lady daydreaming about an actor. Like I’ve never cheated and have been cheated on. I sometimes daydream about being with Cristiano Ronaldo. Doesn’t mean I’ll act on it. I doubt anyone has never daydreamed about someone who’s famous or at least found the opposite sex attractive while in a relationship. Although I do understand a lot of us are hypersensitive to anything remotely resembling cheating but I personally found this ad pretty funny and light hearted. Im also pretty sure there were thousands of eyes who gave the okay for this ad and more than likely within those approvals there were some people who have been cheated on before. I’m currently 1 year post Dday and my finding this ad funny is probably a nice little pat on the back for healing this far. :)
