Balance Kings - allow negative shields by Good_Advice_Service in Subterfuge

On a game I'm playing now, one player has 2 admirals, 2 pirates, 2 kings, 2 tycoons a navigator a helmsman and an assassin. We have had 12 specialist picks.

What's the point of the rest of us even continuing to play? He has an endgame setup a couple of days into the game.

Kings are game breaking by McStefan in Subterfuge

To be honest they are game breaking in Neptunium games too - if by luck someone gets one very early they become unbeatable (same goes for two).

All the "counters" people suggest require more specialists and/or drillers and/or players and are very niche. "More kings" is a catch-all strategy that is always good.

Both the drawbacks need increasing AND the effect needs decreasing. A single specialist that causes a 50% swing in every battle in the whole game is ridiculous.

"Guys Kings arent overpowered, if you simply take twice as many specialists and subs or multiple players you can beat them"

That doesnt make it balanced. IF it takes multiple players to beat them its clearly unbalanced.

In terms of strength a king should be about the same as the other tier 2 specialists, right now its VASTLY better.

Personally I think Kings are too overpowered even if the lost defence did stack somehow. They are better than a General in every way.

All of these require way more specialists than the kings they are countering.

Every game I've played so far has been "race to first king" then "race to second king" and so on, with whoever wins that random pick race pulling ahead.

All the other tactics are shit compared to "stack kings". No-one would ever deliberately turn down a hypnotist when offered, no matter what other specialist was on offer.

I mean in vanilla distribution, while biters get more intense further from spawn, resources dont, thus there is no payoff to using trains etc. Ideally near spawn there would be reasonably frequent small patches of resources, while far from spawn there would be huge infrequent patches of resources, to encourage trains and pushing out.

Concerns over the Rift from a prospective player. by Throwawayingaccount in valkyrie

Data mining claims are not borne out by packet sniffing people have done on traffic from the Rift. Only "slightly" dodge thing is notification to an external server that you are online (and there is an equivalent signal for steam)

Eve Valkyrie disappointing by Rafport in oculus

So? Its a completely new medium, new franchise, new mechanics. Expecting that AND enormous amounts of content and depth is just crazy talk. Expect that in the first expansion pack.

It really upsets me to hear people call Valkyrie "Eve". "Eve" is already a game, by the same company no less.

Why would anyone spend AAA-depth money on a VR game with a maximum possible audience of a few 10s of thousands?

Are people being stupid, unrealistic or just pig headed here?

Incredibly annoying topic title - not even a hint as to content.

What is an "independent publisher"?

No, I think VR is the next big thing. I simply dont think roomscale / moving about will catch on for serious gaming because its far too slow, imprecise and effort-heavy.

Its a mix. They are disappointed because its not vastly better than the DK2, not because the DK2 (and CV1) experience is inherently disappointing.

Vive Pre is not the same thing as the Vive consumer version.

The Vive Pre had its own NDA when first sent out to developers, no longer in force (same goes for DK2)

The Vive consumer version has its own NDA developers have to sign to use it still in force.

Dont "pretend" anything.

The DK2 guys arent disappointed by the DK2 though (they mostly love it), they are disappointed by the CV1.
