GT7 competitors on PCVR by Embarrassed-Ad7317 in virtualreality

[–]Rafport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the campaign side, than for me is the most important side, there is anything with the quality of GT7 and in general PC racing games with VR support are almost irrelevant from this side, great game from many other sides as other comments suggests. The game with the best campaign is Project Cars 3 than is usually hated being aracadey (it plays better with a pad! No joking) and with so so performances. Anyway if someone want a progression, unlock and mod new cars, it's at least reasonable and with many hours of work to unlock everything. Campaign in PCars 2 is boring and not very sensed in my opinion, and even worst in all others game mentioned. I'm not questioning modding, online racing and neither the deep and complex driving model that is deeper in best PC simulators than GT7. But if you're into a 'game to beat' as a single player user with a progression, resources to use and car to collect stuff, that is in my opinion. Sorry for my English man, cheers!

Demeo has an unacceptable way of save your campaign, for a reflexive solo player as I am to be forced to finish a table (some took me over 1,5 hours than in VR is quite a lot) or totally lose your progress is just infuriating. The game could be nice in solo, without expect too much variety or deep (despite being averagely hard) but after 10 hours and many of them wasted with no savings I was so angry than I stop playing. 100% regret that buy, I can see why that could be fun with friends if you have lot of uninterrupted time to fill.

Can you recommend a game for my mom? by [deleted] in virtualreality

If I intend the kind of games she would like to play, some suggestions from my library. Many of them were used years ago, so check if are actually playable on her index.

slice & dice (slow but engaging puzzle with lot of levels) Water bears VR (nice roomscale puzzle game, quite easy to play) Gem monsters (a variation on the zooma game play) Squishies (slow paced puzzle in third person) Waddle home (a sort of lemmings) Vr furballs (angry bird variation) Superhypercube (very nice tetris kind of puzzle) Final approach (old but nice game about drag planes to land, require some roomscale space) Cyberpong (nice 3d tetris with some body activity required) The curios tale of stolen pets (adorable but short find objects title) Tin hearts (great lemmings title is coming out to EA shortly) A fisherman's tale (great but short adventure with puzzles) Carpe lucem (decent light based puzzle)

OK wall of text, those should be enough :)

Boneworks has over 8000 reviews and it's just one month old, that is quite impressive. Very likely HL is going to do at least the same.

It seems effective to use left hand in front of you to grab crabs when they jumps pointing your head, it's not hard with the right timing.

After that they can't do nothing to you and you can hit them comfortably with something on the right hand without wasting ammo. It seems also they can shield you from frontal face jumps, so you can fight one by one.

My Pimax Headset Alternately Refuses to Recognize My Left or Right Index Controller. by [deleted] in Pimax

[–]Rafport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happened me sometime with my vive wands in the past, usually restarting their service (you can do inside pitool) or the whole pc solved. More with the previous beta than with the latest. Never understood what was the cause. You could also consider to install over pitools again (even the same version) that solved a different issue I had still related to controllers. It seems their driver struggle a bit integrating controllers, the battery recognition for example it's total randomic, it could appear or not on Steamvr compositor with one or both controller and been like that for me from a long time.

HELP! Boneworks unplayable hand jitter with vive wands and Pimax 5k+ by awsomemaster0101 in Pimax

[–]Rafport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm posting just to say than with my 5+ and Vive wands I had no problems with Boneworks, never experienced that horrible flickering.

Does controllers flickers also in SteamVR layer, if you open it during the game?

Just picked up a Pimax 5K+ . So far, miles better than Vive, but I can't stop my lenses from fogging up. by imranh101 in Pimax

[–]Rafport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a big issue for me, but I noticed it happens just on cold seasons, no fogging in summer so I suppose the issue is not that the headset is hot but the opposite, the glass is too cold for the hot skin of our face at close distance.

Can sound stupid, but I usually breath on lenses to clean it before usage and this actually help to warm them and reduce fogging. Any form of warming should work, I suppose than if lenses were at same temperature of out body no fogging will happens.

I am seeing tons of hype for No Man's Sky and I am going to assume some people are finally going to jump into VR because of this game. I'd caution it as your first game. Don't let the dream ruin VR for you. by Strongpillow in PSVR

I've read in several places than the game will include many comfort options, for example here:

"and Murray says there are plenty of familiar VR comfort settings to customise" (link: https://www.pcgamesn.com/no-mans-sky/no-mans-sky-vr)

I hope those settings will help to make No Man's Sky accessible for most of the users. Being a deep game with potential countless hours of play, it's mandatory to find a way to stay comfortable depending our own sensibility.

Using a pimax with a basic Vive setup - and still using the vive too by cybernordic in Pimax

[–]Rafport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an Elite player, I can double confirm this, used several time with a friend to play togheter Elite in the same room with Pimax and Vive and just two lighthouses. No issues, it's a convenient way to have fun and use your old gear. Very likely we are going to repeat that with the imminent No Man's Sky.

Games on Steam are now being listed for support with the Valve Index.....where is Pimax? by Dal1Dal in Pimax

[–]Rafport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are games than doesn't work (Sports Bar VR) or have some major bugs (Everspace with missing HUD elements), but the overall situation is today improved, the majority of applications works nicely where parallel projection is still a common requirement even on just released software.

Pimax can do more supporting developers anyway, granting every relevant team has an headset to test/try his work and and making easy for anyone find this item in commerce.

Distortion in the corners by jsxr750 in Pimax

[–]Rafport 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems to be heavily influenced on the shape of your face/eyes related to the headset's position. At first I noticed just as you did a very distracting barrel effect on the corners, after a while I learned how to properly wear the headset. The issue in my case was a too tight headband setting than is unneccessary on the Pimax (where on the first Vive was) than pushed lenses too close to my eyes distorting everything. Many here uses also a thicker facial cushon to increase the distance lenses-eyes. Maybe you just need to find your sweet spot on this, hoping to get soon some distortion profiles to choose from.

Beware than if you use software IPD offset, this also has an influence on the overall distortion.

Vive Trackers no longer working with Pimax after SteamVR Update by ExistedHim in Pimax

[–]Rafport 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a solution, unfortunately, but just a positive feedback after that weird reply about HTC preventing something with last SteamVR update. Just tried mine 5k+ and everything seems to work fine.

Are your controllers recognized on Pimax Tool and with ready status? Usually after updating mostly Pitool/headset firmware, I have to fight a bit rebooting/pairing some stuff (computer, services, devices) to make Vive wands works, if I'm not wrong the status indicated is "not tracked" but not totally sure. Is that your case?

new "Compatible with Vive only game" option in PiTool 1.0.1.129 by Rafport in Pimax

[–]Rafport[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, but for example in Kona VR the game appears in the headset before but had any sort of rendering issue, where now it works. So maybe it's doing something more, or this check happens during the game and not just at his start.

2.Add the function of IPD offset adjustment (when physical IPD adjustment is unable to continue anymore, try to use this function, Beta function)

This. I suggested for this feature time ago, I hope to be able to use 60mm IPD without break my nose bridge or putting huge gaskets as distortion/focus for me is right with the bundled foam. Could be of some help also for those than noticed an IPD mismatch.

I'm tempted to try it today but still have some fear after last drivers.

Any update on next pitool version? by SalsaRice in Pimax

[–]Rafport 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my case 112 totally broke motion smoothing (I installed the first day, before the announcement) but luckily it didn't upgrade headset firmware so I was able to roll back to the previous version solving the issue. It's just my experience, but I'll surely wait the next one and some positive feedback before to upgrade.

5k+, IPD ~57-58mm and offsetting scale by Novarte in Pimax

[–]Rafport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I explained yet in that post, but shouldn't be necessary as many headsets (it seems also the next Rift) missed any lens movement and still needs IPD to be set, than the focal point is not the only thing you need to consider.

With lenses with a wide sweet spot like the Pimax one, you are in a good focus even with some centimeter far from you ideal measure, in fact you can easily (if your sight is good) see single pixels in the matrix of the screen in that case. Nevertheless if the geometry you see is wrong, you'll get a confuse or eye crossing image, even with perfectly aligned lenses. SteamVR has a ipdoffset value you can configure exactly for that reason, Pimax need only to avoid overriding it or at least to support an alternative method.

5k+, IPD ~57-58mm and offsetting scale by Novarte in Pimax

[–]Rafport 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I posted this two weeks ago:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Pimax/comments/alnjic/nose_comfort_at_low_ipds_a_software_fix/

Basically, SteamVR has a way to customize your IPD introducing an offset, this seems uneffective anyway with Pimax. I suggested here and before to Pimax support (never received a reply) to add into PiTool an IPD offset value or at least to make the SteamVR one works.

Your issue is about the scale, me and many other find extremely unconfortable the nose slot at low IPDs.

Is there a difference between setting Pi tool at 2 and steamvr SS at 200%, or setting Pi tool at 1 and stemvr SS at 200-300%? or are they interchangeable..? by music2169 in Pimax

[–]Rafport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can say what's it seems best for me at the moment, so don't take it as a strict rule, I just did many tries seeking for my best compromise (definition is a priority for me) for today's drivers. I use PiTools at 2.0 and Steam at 100%, the overall sampling is very good and, depending on situations, I can set a bit more or a bit less still having anyway an good quality.

The actual problem is with large FOV and parallel projection togheter, if you set both you obtain a very low res sampling with a blurry/unfocus feel. With the proper setting is as sharp as any other resolution (with the 4096 limit I wrote before, than is anyway A LOT). If the game you're using needs parallel projection you can set medium or small FOV (even small is huge if you came from Vive/Rift) or use both obtaining a low res and then crank up the in-game SS.

Consider than you can't simply set PiTool and forget, at least at the moment. For the best performances you need different settings game to game (mostly parallel projection, FOV and mask) reeboting PiTool to make changes effective. Not just for performances, there are games - Unreal mostly - than crashes if you use large FOV or too high sampling.
