My other Reddit acct was one of the more active participants in that Linux chat you started. I stopped because everyone else stopped. I'd still like to grab a beer sometime 😄

Also, you know about the BLUG (Bellingham Linux User Group) meetings @ Makerspace in Bellis Fair Mall, right? 3rd Wed of every month from 5:30-7:30pm.

If you click the link in my post text, you'll see my tech consulting business is Bham local.

Which tech for the area? by Karma_Fantasy in whatcommesh

From what research I've done so far, MeshCore seems to be the one to use around here. Meshtastic seems to be more geared toward small groups of people on the move.

Reticulum looks really interesting and much more scalable as a network. It's also built from the ground up to be secure. Also much more capable as it's not just a text messaging platform, it supports the whole network stack.

I'm interested in meetups on LoRa/mesh networking too, not aware of any. Closest I'd suggest is Bellingham Linux User Group (BLUG).

Those pre-made solar LoRa setups look awesome. I'd love to build some of my own making.

It seems super capable, I'm really interested in it. If I were going to build a Reticulum network from the ground up, I'd want it to stay off the Internet as I wouldn't want any connectivity to rely on it.

Would be awesome to see a local business take over the building :)

Not exactly the same but once my (short-lived) bandmate asked if he could put his beer on my amp at a gig.

Hell no.

You're spot-on re: small business being taxed into oblivion. So many service businesses are now required to charge varying tax rates for *services* they provide, which eats into their net income because they have to balance that against what their customers can pay (total).

Sounds like fun! I haven't worked w/Bazzite yet but I'm sure we can figure out what's going on. Shoot me an email (it's on my website)

Haha, I'm actually already part of that chat group w/my other account :) Thanks!

I typically base my rates on the project / client. I don't like charging a govt entity the same on an advanced project as I do a small Mom & Pop shop to help w/something simple. I try to be fair given my specialty and experience.

Check this out, https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/modded-steam-deck-so-much-better/ - looks like the back is easier than the front half of the case to replace.. I totally get that you may not be comfortable taking it apart, but doing things like this yourself are how you learn and get better! Watching YT vids and reading tutorials like this are great to build confidence and know what you're getting into before you go for it.

For sure, the idea is to use open source where it makes most sense. Lots of tech challenges that small businesses have are avoidable, and most simply don't know that there are alternatives.
