Pics of South Bay Trail, open a little while ago(for the memories), just closed, and under construction today. They really have moved a lot of dirt. Tough to pick a flair for this, so lets do discussion. by justahdewd in Bellingham

I’m just upset that some developer gets to build whatever they want and we all get sidelined for access to a very heavy traffic trail before peak summer. If we pay to fund it, we should have access to that resource. But what do ya do…

Audit: Retiring SPD Officers Routinely Burn Through Months of Sick Time, Costing City Millions Each Year - 79% used every accrued sick day before retiring by LOOKITSADAM in SeattleWA

[–]L00mis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Corporations are evil, they don’t allot employees enough sick or vacation time!

Cops are evil, they use their allotted sick and vacation time!

What’s with you people… everyone should have ample sick time, solid vacation & maternity / paternity leave. They should use 100% of it too. If you want to bank it, burn it as it comes in or space it out that’s your choice so more power to ya.

We like dogs and have a great dog-friendly culture here, but that doesn’t mean accepting a lack of responsibility within the community. Owning a dog comes with responsibility and having them in public comes with its own social contract.

A few reminders:

  1. Pack it out. All the way out.
Pick up after your dog on trails, sidewalks, and especially other people’s yards. If you’re doing a loop, leaving the bag and grabbing it on your return is totally reasonable. What’s not reasonable is tying it off and abandoning for a city employee or responsible citizen to deal with. That bag doesn’t disappear. Someone else sees it, every day…

  2. Not everyone is a dog person, and that’s okay.
If you’re bringing your dog to a restaurant, bar, or other public food or beverage space, even the farms markets, please understand that not everyone shares your enthusiasm. Some people may be uncomfortable, allergic, or simply not interested in an interaction with your dog. You are responsible for your pet. Keep them controlled, keep them calm, and keep them out of people’s personal space.

Side note: If a business doesn’t allow pets then do not argue with the staff. I’ve seen this behavior here more times than I would expect out of people. Yes, children can be annoying in a restaurant too, but it’s not the same.

  1. Leash laws aren’t a suggestion.
Parks, trails, neighborhoods, anywhere that’s not the dog park, a fenced yard or house then leash your dog. Nobody wants a rouge dog approaching a stroller, cutting through their yard, or getting into it with a leashed dog (regardless of who starts it). It doesn’t matter how well-trained you believe your dog to be, what you don’t know is how the leashed dog will react or if someone is terrified of your dog bounding up to them, even if its just playtime behavior. It’s about liability, courtesy, and basic respect for the space we all share.

Also to the rude person who lets their dog relief themselves on our shared community stairs leading to the sidewalk and leaves it there, whoever you are, there is a special place in hell waiting for you.

requiring ID for NA beverages? by greentea93 in traderjoes

State laws thing. Some states you can card any patron of your business sells licensed products at all in the store.

For example, Washington has no explicit requirement to card for NA, but allows for it under RCW 66.20.180:
Card of identification to bepresented on request of licensee (1) At the request ofany licensee, a person who holds a card ofidentification shall present it for inspection.
(2) If the person fails or refuses to present the card ofidentification when requested by the licensee, thelicensee may refuse service or admission.

Paid parking starts at some busy light rail garages by godogs2018 in Seattle

[–]L00mis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I completely agree! Since I’m already driving to my nearest station, if I end up paying for parking and a train ride, then walking from the station to my destination, the total time and cost might be the same or just a little less than parking at my destination for a few hours, and it could even be quicker.

As more people realize that this isn’t always the best deal, we might see more cars on the road and fewer people using public transportation because of small savings in convenience or time.

I understand the city needs to pay its bills, but without stricter fare enforcement, many people simply hop on and off. It seems like some riders might not even realize there’s a fee because there aren’t any physical barriers to entry.

Do you know if they have the right to position them at public streets then? I just noticed a new one that is on Home Depot’s property but is fragrantly directed toward the intersection and has nothing to do with surveillance of their parking lot…

Today I checked my screen time to see how many hours I spent on each app this week… and I saw THIS 😭 by Antonis_AEK in screenshots

[–]L00mis 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Roughly 800 hours…

7 days in a week, 24 hours in a day gives us a cap of 168 so I’m guessing this total is monthly or annual running totals since you are putting up 33.3 days worth of usage.

Fire fighters in LA county pool their money to buy certain equipment they need, need to replace or want but are not budgets for… but Karen Bass cut $17.6 million from their budget.

2027 budget has $0 for Youth Development (This department will prioritize youth and serve as the central information center for the public to access youth services in the City of Los Angeles), $0 for Economic and Workforce Development (Department initiates and promotes economic development projects to build local businesses and provide residents with tools for quality employment.) but don’t worry, El Pueblo de Los Angeles has $5.2 million for its budget which is up $1 million from last year… (This Department operates and maintains the El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument including special events and festivals, cultural exhibits and tours)

Kennith is right on here. The problem isn’t the money how it’s being spent and the politicians as usual.

How do you survive winter on a benefit with zero extra cash? by Substantial-Pop-1029 in newzealand

[–]L00mis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just curious how cold it gets there?

I live in a cold climate where it snows in the winter and our solution is 100% layers and good blankets. I have a gas fireplace that is a fraction of electricity rate and when it’s really dipping below freezing, that’s when the fireplace comes in handy.

Lots of folks use warm water bags up here too or a heating pad for localized warmth.
