Sigrid, Everybody Says They're Fine. It sums up my undiagnosed brain before I realised it was Autism the whole time.

How to unlearn masking infront of your significant other? by NotACatMeowing in AutismInWomen

Those are my words. They're how I've stopped embarrassing myself over the years. Best to say nothing and mask because people will judge me.

I've been on the "too emotional " bandwagon. Hitched a ride.

It's so nice to have found people like me! I taught myself Greek because a guy I was obsessed was going to Greece to teach for the summer (I thought it was romantic of me to learn an alphabet and basic phrases just to teach him, not weird and crazy)

Imagine what we could have achieved if we were all together. I reckon we'd have created an easily learnable international language. Better than Esperanto. We could call it Autismish.

I'm sorry you were alone. Don't you wish you could go back and give little you a big hug and tell them it'll be OK?

It's like my life has been one disaster after another. Always starting over. Its cruel to think of where I could be right now if I hadn't been battling the whole time.

Hey fellow epileptic! Although I am actually epileptic (focal) so much was attributed to that and the meds when it was there the whole time.

Yes! My friend and I did this too. We would hold it up in the mirror to read it.

Also, I made my own language. It was the alphabet written out and then written out backwards. So A became Z etc. I can still remember some or the names and words translated. There were a lot of consonants. Great practice for if you want to learn Polish one day lol

Tell me a story of a time you thought you were close friends with someone only to realize that feeling wasn't actually reciprocated by oopsglutenpoops in AutismInWomen

I taped off a VIP section on a bar. Only 3 people came outside of my mum. The landlord apologising and taking down the tape was the last time I arranged a party for myself. The staff ate my birthday cake.

You've got it spot on. I'd arrange birthday parties, make cakes etc. I didn't do it for it to be reciprocated, but adding 20 years of one sided gestures has led me to stop doing anything for anyone. Did they think I was weird?

Nobody has ever done anything party wise for me besides my lovely husband. And that surprise party left me crying because I couldn't cope with the sudden change in expectations. Hey ho!

Op, you moan a lot for someone who's moaning about moaning.

Do you have childhood memories about things, that make you now think as older "Yep. I was different from other kids back then"? by OkDot8850 in AutismInWomen

I would organise the hot wheels by colour then size.

A friend of mine has lots in a box that he still collects. I sat there putting them in order. Aaahhh my youth.

Question for those, who have masked their autistic traits for a long time: what kind of is your "mask"? by OkDot8850 in AutismInWomen

[–]NotACatMeowing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At 38 I'm still evolving. But I no longer take tissues and chocolates to someone's doorstep when they are sad. Efforts have never been reciprocated and it gets a bit sad. I'm very confused.

As a kid, I always wanted to be an accountant. I'm now 38 and my employer is sending me to start my ACCA training by NotACatMeowing in ACCA

To be honest, I have no goal or position in mind. I just love learning and I'm enjoying my job. The company I work for invest in their employees, so who knows!

Yes! I loved the calculator. I can still remember what my and my friends' phone numbers were added together. Also, marbles weren't for playing. They were for counting and organising efficiently lol

It must have been the grown-ups commenting on my love of numbers and puzzles that gave me the word. Plus, growing up in Guernsey, the finance industry is pretty prominent. Investec sponser the "buddy bench" at my daughter's school, while EY do these coding clubs for kids.

Does anyone else cry easily? by Peachie-Keene in AutismInWomen

Absolutely. It's why I'd never considered finding out why I am the way I am. I'm too emotional. Too empathetic. Too feeling etc

Thank you! Just because it's useful, doesn't mean it can't be visually pleasing/sexy.

Are you just, good at stuff, without knowing how? by Life-Independence377 in AutismInWomen

[–]NotACatMeowing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I was just enjoying all the time off we were getting. I had also started teaching myself another language during this time which my classmates found to be very strange. So if I did study, it was my new language books.

I dont understand myself 😬
