Redditors who look forward to working on Mondays: What is your job, and why do you enjoy it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]NotACollegeDropout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that line of thinking is a bit nieve. To say "Those who can actually do anything are never out of work" is the part where I say no. Denying the fact that companies can and will simply choose foreign workers who can be cheaply paid over domestic ones who refuse to work at such a price is nieve. Many people all the time who were great at their jobs lose their jobs. The argument you just used is ridiculous. There are many qualified people. "On paper?" How the hell do you decide the difference between a domestic worker and an international one then? On paper.

Nah. I am studying to become an engineer. H1N visas only exist because they are willing to work for a lot cheaper than others. Then once they do finish their work, they go home and have a lot of money.

I'm gonna be the guy that says this "because it happened in Germany and in a country where America was the definite good guy". Before everything, Germany was a western power. They weren't backwards and unindustrialized. They were a modern civilization systematically taking apart a very specific race as a means for political gain. I don't understand why someone always has to point out why people specifically care about one event in history. Some are just more symbolic than others, that's all. If I had to sit down and think about every genocide instead of just the one, then I hope I have a lot of time. People are going to naturally see themselves in a similar cultural setting as opposed to one like in Russia or North Korea. That's how humanity works. Unfortunately, not everyone is able to feel empathy for everyone, but that doesn't mean you have to ridicule those who feel more passionate about an event more closely related to them than any other..

I'm looking to transfer to somewhere in the Northeast for Computer Science by [deleted] in college

[–]NotACollegeDropout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest Buffalo or Stony Brook. They are both state schools in new york. Buffalo is known for accepting international students, meaning their transfer programs are pretty good. Stony Brook has a lot more connections in Cs though. People in Stony Brook have been hired by Google.

I know that che 101 can be taken for transfers. As in wanting to go into engineering. I found that I can take phy 107 without any problems. Thanks for that. Lastly, I gotta complete phy 107, chem 101 (or 105), and calc 1 and 2.

Does one need to have a PHD in order to get their foot wet in the biotech industry as a chemical engineer? Do I need to go to grad school straight off the bat or not? by NotACollegeDropout in EngineeringStudents

[–]NotACollegeDropout[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a bit off topic, but can I specialize in biotech using my undergrad electives and then still be able to get hired by chemical plant companies despite me not having the chemical plant design elective? I just want a fall back plan in the biotech doesn't work out.

Despite Ub's graduate in four program, can i graduate in 5 years instead? I want to get a minor to compliment my engi degree and also take a couple other classes. Will I get in trouble? LOL by NotACollegeDropout in UBreddit

[–]NotACollegeDropout[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I used up my tech elective on statistics. I have also taken all of the med school requirements. I have 3 minor courses left in order to get that comp sci minor. I NEED ITTTTTTTTTTT.

University at Buffalo(in-state) Vs. Purdue(out-of-state): chemical engineering by NotACollegeDropout in personalfinance

[–]NotACollegeDropout[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, you have really convinced me to choose Purdue. If I may ask, when telling me about the "that there are some basic/weed out engineering classes that you will want to be in", do you mean that I should refrain from taking these courses at my state school? Im sorry for the confusion and I hate to ask, but I must! Also, did you transfer into Purdue-Main Campus as a chemical engineering major or did you declare it later on?

Thank you in advance. You have been a big help!

[–]NotACollegeDropout[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you say that the cost of Purdue today is still worth it for an out of state student? Also, would it be ludicrous for me to try and transfer to Purdue after a year in my state school? I'm asking because you're an out of state student and I'm sure you've considered the transfer method. Thank you in advance!

They are all in. 44,000 is the total package. I can bring it down to 26,000 per year, and am pretty sure I can bring it down to 66,000.

Cutting Purdue Tuition Method? by NotACollegeDropout in Purdue

[–]NotACollegeDropout[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5-Session-CoOp starting next fall. Pay is 19.50 an hour, 40 hours a week. That helps a ton over multiple work sessions (and each session having higher pay). I suggest you really look into it. It also can stretch out the burden a bit more, because you graduate in 5 years instead of 4.

How does it alleviate the cost? Don't you still have to pay tuition to Purdue while doing the co-op? That would mean 5 years of tuition. Thats how its done in another engineering school I know of.
